This should make you feel better. Three years ago i was watching a PL meet and one of my buddies was trying for the state bodyweight record on bench, 485 at 160lbs. He unracked it fine, paused at the top to steady it and his right wrist cracked. Watching 485 bounce off someones face isn't a pretty sight. The spotters grabbed it before it crushed him, but he broke his jaw, nose and busted 12 teeth out. Major reconstructive surgery and alot of rehab! Anywho...take it easy for awhile and come back strong bro.

:o :o :o

Is false grips a bad thing ? I always use a suicide grip (never heard that term for it before :worried: ) and havent had a problem. I have small wrists and always felt I could lift more with the thumbless grip. Small

Isn't the thumbless grip not able to be used in competition?

Anyway, hope you can recover soon bro. Have some K to make you feel better. Just take it easy and know that it may take longer to get back to 100% but don't rush things, don't want to hurt yourself again.

Good luck

thanks everybody, I just woke up and it feels like someone shoved a chainsaw into my midsection and hacked around for a few minutes. sore as hell. feels like I got hit by a train. Morphine didnt help anything but made my skin burn like 1 million red ants biting me on my spinal column. Does anyone have any idea how long I might be out? The er dr. said I could lift when i felt up to it. brusied ribs. I walked on treadmill today to keep metabolism up. I dont want to turn into a fatass while I am not lifting. Sounds like an oportunity to plan my next bulker for the beginning of next year.

That has happened to me before - bar rolled to my neck. I was lucky the bar tilted and hit the floor and I got out - although everyone at the gym was staring at me after it happened. Not only was it embarassing as hell, but it really scared me because I could feel the pain in my throat for several days afterwards.
Today I use wraps when I bench heavy, and I work my forearms extra hard.
Hasn't happened since.
I hope you get well soon, I wouldn't worry about getting back to the gym so quickly. It's (The gym) not going anywhere - it will just be a matter of hard work to get back to where you want to be when your healthy enough to try. Listen to your body, let it heal properly.

I dropped 245 on my chest the same way...........except I was doing decline and it rolled down to my neck. Good thing i had a spotter or i could be dead. I luckily had almost no ill effects from it.

now why you have to post this and scare me?

Whats the difference when your using ur thumbs around the bar or thumbs in when your doin bench. From all the videos I have most pro's seam to do it thumbs in.

I usually lift without a spotter so when I bench press I setup a flat bench inside the squat rack with the safety bars positioned such that I can't be crushed.

The bar can't come any closer than 2" off my chest but at least I know I won't be headed for the ER.
