Cravings Question.....

Cravings...we all have them and sometimes for very wierd items and at very wierd times. See today, though I am trying to lose some BF, I have been craving applejuice all day and really bad! Thing is, I never drink Applejuice, just OJ sometimes, but not alot. I've been wondering if cravings are mental or if they are there because the body really needs something like sugar, or a certain vitamin, etc or both.

I gave in a drink 16 OZ of tree top applejuice and while I just wrecked my diet for today, it sure tasted WONDERFUL. :) (forgive me sassy)

So what do you diet gurus think?

I get cravings for stuff i dont eat on the norm myself when i diet. I've never been a fan of choclate but when i diet i crave it, its very odd. So i went and bought some of that fat/sugar free choc pudding to fight them off.

Be interesting to here some theories~

I did the same thing awhile back to control the sweettooth I have and got some of that russell stovers sugar free pepermint patty type things. I ate like 10 of them and THEN I see the tiny little warning on the bag. "excessive consumption may cause intestional discomfort and a provide a laxative effect". WHAT?

Needless to say I was peeing out my butt and it smelt like rotten skunk butt.

I disgusted myself. lol

I thought about that but whats wierd is that sometimes I get it right after a meal, I just want something paticular. I am full (not on any gear to cause appetite increase) but I just want something. Strange. Maybe I'm pregnant.

When my wife woke me up at 3am and told me to go the store and get her a jar of peanut butter and some chicken nuggets, i picked up a prego test while i was out LOL.

sounds like the typical symptom of sugar cravings.....its like that little 5 year old you say "ok, but just one more time" to.....a few hours later, he's encouraged to try it just one more "last" time.....

sugar begat sugar.......damn sugarx

and i'm watching sugarpoo get his ass boxed retarted right now....lol

...if you're not scared of splenda, dasani flavored water(grape, strawberry, lemon, raspberry) stops a sweet tooth craving and is pretty tasty as well as quinches your thirst... as I'm sure any other drink/food of the the type that is low cal or no cal...

LOL --- it sounds like you are relatively new to dieting and not on a competition schedule -- I really think you should include a cheat meal once/week. It just helps w/ the cravings, etc. A good diet can accommodate a cheat w/ no problem. I've been doing competition prep for 6 yrs and just finally this last year have been able to deal w/ my cravings w/o going thru a full-on panic about it. I've relied on VPX Dietex during my last 2 preps and it works great for me -- but it does absolutely seem like it kills your taste buds. Using hoodia now. Doesn't seem to be a guarantee that works for everyone, but works for me.

RE: the peanut butter craving - the ONLY time I've craved PB is when I've needed fats - that's an easy one to identify because the specific craving is so blatantly for PB. Outside of dieting when ANPB is literally the only "fun" food on my diet, a PB craving is very very specifically for fat.
