i started adding all this a while ago n you can tell the difference, i drink one straight after lifting, before bed and in the middle of the night if i wake up. as to nelson: kangaroo steaks you cant beat them, medium rare. try it if you can find it.

Can you send me some? :p

im to lazy to cook so i drink like 3 -4 shakes a day and i stil lmake progress but would probably make more if i eat real food......i weigh 260 and fairly lean so it would be hard for me to actually get in enough protein without takin in shakes

people need to add whole food items to their shakes and make them more wholesome like powdered milk, olive oil, handful of seeds or nuts, coconut flakes, a few fish oil caps, whole pysillium husk powder. Protein and water is weak and a waste imho.

a few of you guys mentioned the protien shakes are eazy....
thats the prob they are to eazy and make us reliant on them ...
took me a year to make the trasition to all food becuase of the price .But its not that bad you just have to cook on the grill every 2 days 6 chicken breast,6 salmon filets, and a london broil, buy salad mix already cut up and prepared in the bags then break the eggs 12 at a time take the whites refridgerate them.. then buy tubs of cottage cheese and 15lb bags of potatoes cooking a potatoe in the microwave a few minutes in plastic and whoa la your done.

eazy day looks like this

breakfast ...4 egg whites, oatmeal, cottage cheese with slice of fruit
midmorning snack... no sugar yogart ,fruit, almonds
lunch ...2 chicken breast or salmon of beef ,freash salad, baked potatoe
mid day snack...peanut butter jelly with milk and hand full or almonds
Dinner ...2 salmon filets or london broil or chicken ,freash veggie, fruit and pinapple.
snack before bed.. cottage cheese with blue berries and a glass of milk .

problem is the food goes bad if not eaten right away so youll be at the store atleast every 3 days if not more...
if its not enough calories just add more fish beef or chicken at dinner and lunch or before bed time...

When I used shakes I had to double the protien intake and got no better ii actually noticed I need less protien from meals becuase its COMPLETE PROTIEN from many sources results real food is where its at anyone that tries it for 6 months will see dramatic results..

Bruce you are infact 100% correct FOOD STICKS TO YOUR BONES protiens drinks well to many just end looking the same way in they came in as they go out.

The problem with whey protein shakes is the small size of the protein powder. The stomach processes the fine protein particles much faster than it can absorb that protein so the excess gets excreted in the urine. I notice I always have foamy urine shortly after a protein shake.

Solid foods take more time to digest; and fat further slows down the digestion (not the metabolism). So the protein in solid food is utilized more fully than protein powder.

Your protein intake looks awfully low to me. I don't see the point of lowering protein intake just to say that you eat a whole food diet. Makes no sense to me.

My protein intake consists of:

1.5lb turkey
.5lb lean ground beef
6.5scoops whey
2 egg whites
2 tbsp ANPB
That is spread out over 7 meals.

Sometimes food is harder to get down ... shakes are a supplement (like vitamins), an additive, not a base. Low fat cottage cheese and skim milk are probably better than any powder.

Cottage cheese...gotta love it. I have about 2 a day. 11 grams of protein each. And it tastes real good, get the brookstone ones.
