Just curious, but when you are through bulking and start cutting up do you still lift as heavy as you normally do and in the same weigh range and just adjust your diet, cardio and supplementation? Or do you increase the number of reps and set, perform more compound/tri/supersets? I was just wondering because when i look @ the fitness competitors workout splits it seems like they are doing a high number of reps and they say they do this to "maintain" the amount of muscle they have, but if you are on a calorie deficit diet lifting heavy should not be able to cause you to gain lots of muscle.......so why go lighter. Sorry for my ignorance, just like to know.

You should be lifting heavy even when dieting..it is a bitch and obviously you will not be able to throw the same amount of weight around but untill the last few weeks everything should stay the same...you workouts will suffer and you may go down a little in weight, especially towards the end. I do circuit type training the last week before my show, I train my whole body, light weights, just basically to get a pump and kill myself:(

Lift heavy until about 2 weeks out, but use common sense and don't get injured. More reps and lighter weight will do nothing but cost you muscle mass and does nothing to help reduce body fat.

Regarding fitness chicks. If they lifted heavy with all the juice they are on, they'd be a lot bigger than they want to be. In my opinion, that is why many of them lift the way they do.

Duh on my part......I guess since they are not bodybuilders I overlooked the fact that some of them us AS. i'm such a idiot at times. I don't plan on competing in the near future, maybe some figure comps in 2003. I have no desire to use AS right now and I know a lot of those in fitness do (now i know). Since I can't run with the big dogs I'll keep my ass here on the porch :)
