Drinking on the weekends

So how bad is it to drink on the weekends? I usually drink one night on the weekends, and that is it. Is that bad? Should i cut it out completely, or maybe down to once a month? I dont like to get to hammered, because on top of lifting, i am a big health nut, and do alot to keep my immune system in top shape.

Depends on how much you drink, what you drink, and what your goals are.

Having 2-3 drinks throughout the night, just chatting at a bar, isn't as bad as pounding a 12 pack with some buddies at a football game.

Eitherway, binge drinking isn't good for you. But to be honest, it's all your genetics. If you're just going for looks, I know some friends who can drink all weekend, yet they still have a six pack and big arms.

Then again, even the good looking drunks have internal health problems going on.

EDIT: Actually, the worst side effect of drinking isn't from the alcohol... it's from the beer munchies and those delicious wings at the bar!

Yeah im prolly gonna cut it out completely, or just down to once a month..........I just needed to hear it from someone else.....Thanks bro

You don't need to quit drinking on the weekends. Just avoid a few pitfalls. Drink a hard liquor (Jack, Bacardi) with some diet coke. Theres next to no calories or sugar in that. If your going to drink beer, go for a light beer rather than something thick like Sam Adams or Sierra Nevada.

The problems with drinking (for me at least) come when you over do it and get completely hammered. This leads to several things:
1) You get drunk and start drinking anything in sight...thick beer, sugary mixed drinks etc.
2) You get wasted and at the end of the night your starving and the only place open is a Taco Bell or Wendys. Lets face it, brown rice and chicken don't sound too appealing at 2 a.m. when your drunk.
3) You wake up so hung-over that yo don't end up eating till late afternoon/early evening because you feel sick. When yo do finally muster up the courage to eat, it ends up being some greasy crap because, once again, healthy food is the last thing you want to touch when your drunk or hung over.

Just use some common sense and try not to over do it. If you do over do it, slam a shitload of water before you go to bed and pop a couple aspirins ahead of time. When you wake up in the morning, force yourself to choke down something, whether it be a few glasses of milk, a granola bar, anything.

just wondering BUT this is important:

Are you taking ANYTHING right now to help you with your progress?? If yes, ALCOHOL = NO NO NO NO

Yeah I am taking NO2, and CE2, dont like the CE2 much, so when i run out im gonna switch to that Pure CEE...........i think i will prolly drink tonight because a few of my bros from the Marines are up, and then im gonna call it quits for a while. Thanks for the info, and inputs........

I agree with the statments in bold...

Any alcohol consumption for me right now would be considered my 'cheat meal' ... One night a weekend is fine to me, or a special occasion as well, but I don't think you have to give it up ... IMO, if it interferes with your goals, I'd ditch the booze.

I disagree with the part in bold. Hard liquor DOES have sugar in it and most people don't mix hard alcohol with diet drinks. The sugar levels depend on the alcohol content. Same thing goes with light beer vs. thick lagers. Light beers have less alcohol so less sugar but you have to drink more to get drunk so it's all equivalent.

Everything else you said is true.

Just had to put my 2 cents in on this one. Think of drinking alcohol as drinking estrogen. If you are really serious in what you are doing try to do, avoid alcohol if at all possible. I used to drink every weekend for a few years and i can definately tell you that it hindered my progress in building muscle.

I could feel the effects of alcohol well past 3 days after drinking and by the time my body started to recover from it i would start drinking on the weekends again, hence no forward progress in my training.

Once i totally stopped drinking , that's when i made gains in building muscle to the tune of 20+ lbs. That's something to think about now isn't it.

The best part is, i can thank taking AAS for myself not drinking anymore, you gotta love that :).

I am not saying you can't drink anymore but, if you drink in moderation and only ocassionally you should be fine.
