Hi All,

I'm not talking about being sick, I'm tlking about of necessity? Had to drive my GF to the airport at midnight last night as one of her family is very ill. It was 8am before I got back and I literally showered and did an 8 hour working day. 36 hours with no sleep and I'm feeling it!!

How long can you go before you can't take it anymore?

Been up for 7 days straight, no sleep. Military special ops training.

Also many times 4-5 days up while partying. :chomp:

Working 12 hours night shifts, while watching my 2 year old during the day. Often went more than 24 hours without sleep. I've been so tired at work that I had to puke. At times I'd sleep about 12 hours a week, while working 60 hours at night and watching my daughter all day. Mountain Dew, Xenadrine, and anything else I could get my hands on that would help me stay awake.

I used to think it was a big deal but now in my job I do it all the time. Anything after 3 days is just zombie state, it is hard to be sharp in those situations.

ive been on exercises where ive slept 3 hrs in a week,we had time to sleep i just saw no point in trying when in 20 mins an artillery sim would go off next to you and scare the fuck out of you.

like sf says its a zombie state,i actually believe i was walking and sleeping at the same time, either that or i was so out of it it felt like sleep

More times than I care to remember in college. Actually it happened at least once every 2 weeks when my advanced physics lab reports were due - start writing around noon the day before it was due, finish around noon right before it was due. Plenty of nights up all night debugging a program for class, trying to print it out on my ancient dot matrix printer before my cat sat on the top & backed it up, and then off to work to program some more. Most recently, this past September, up all night writing a proposal and then going off to look at booth construction for an upcoming trade show. It was brutal. I"m 40 for God's sake.

Those were good times indeed. I've I used to stay up 3-4 days out of the week for over two years. I'd start partying thursday night and go until I had to go to work on monday morning. Too much fun.:)

doing the 24 or 36 hrs in a row isnt that bad, and even the next day after u get some sleep isnt that bad, but the NEXT day is when you really feel completely out of sorts. at least thats the way my body responds.

Two to three day benders. *sigh* Yep I may know something about those. In another life, but... yeah.

Oh, and Stick?

Bullshit on the seven days. Special ops my ass, etc.

Special ops? nice! I guess you were able to sleep some minutes in between right?

fuggin junkies on this board again.

The least amount of sleep Ive ever gotten is 1 hour. but then I ended up taking a nap the next day so it eventually evens itself out.

you people are crazy BTW

did 24hrs without sleep last night. had to catch a plane, and was worried that id sleep through my alarm.

personally im a huge garfield, and hate going without sleep. this time...it was worth it :D

24-36 without sleep would just be a minor inconvenience. I have had some bouts with insomnia and after 4-5 days without sleep you can’t even drive a car, working the TV remote can be a challenge, you start to loose you’re short term memory and get very confused.

going without sleep is close to impossible for me.

i feel like i havent slept in a year

2 full days then 3 hours sleep then a day and a half awake, finishing a thesis.
i was walking around and seeing things move from the corner of my eye

Naval Nuclear Power School. I would snort .357mag caffeine tabs to stay awake. Would do 3-4 days straight without any sleep.

Yeah one time I got stuck on I24 in kentucky in a blizzard in on the highway for 14 hours. We left TN at 3p.m. in the afternoon drove nonstop and arrived in Iowa 36 hours later... no sleep. The traffic jam was 40 miles long

I regularly stay awake for 30-40 hrs. The longest I've gone with no sleep is 96hrs after 50-60 you start hallucinating wildly. Although the scariest part is that when I tried to go to sleep I couldn't, I had to chemically knock myself out to finally get some sleep.

Cheers,
Scotsman

after just a couple days your brain starts to show the same waveforms as sleep while you're awake.

I went 53 hours once, but I was working. No drugs, and I lived on Coffee, Oreo's, and like 7 packs of Big Red. I'm kind of sick in the head when it comes to work sometimes.

I have had some pretty bad sleep disorders throughout my life.
A few years ago I would only sleep on Wednesday night. I would go to bed at 8pm and wake up at 4am on Friday for work. I would go to work and then go out all weekend. Go to work again on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. No sleep from Friday until Wednesday.
Interestingly, I would watch tv all night. There used to be these commercials for "Just kidding Video's" The were really funny. Okay, maybe they weren't but I laughed uncontrollably (no sleep can do that). I would call to order them and nobody would pick up. Every night I would watch the infomercial and call. No answer. This went on for months!
I wonder now it I just had the same helucination over and over from sleep deprivation.

lol people who havent been in dont get it eh?

I think the longest I can remember going is about 32 hours, when I was working a night job at school. Got up for that, stayed up afterwards and went to class all day, the gym after that for pickup game of hoops, lifting, then work again and finally sleep a little later. Felt like I was drunk. I've done around 24 hours a few different times, some involving a few different drugs in the process, lol.

They have NO idea!

Had my ass stuck in a foxhole for 3 days and just when you thought you could sneak a minute of shut eye while your teammate took lookout, they would start with the M-60 fire and the grenade and artillery simulators. Then spent the next 2 days doing day and night navigation and finally a 48 hours in an escape and evasion training mission with a 90lb rucksack on your back.

But I'm probably just full of shit.

Tech School.

Nah, regular Air Force is a bunch of pussies. I was in one of the only Special Ops fields they have. We got to take just about any training the military had to offer. We mostly worked with Army Rangers but I think some of the funnest trainging was with the SEALS ans SALT teams!

I've gone 48hrs no sleep while laying in the mud with a submachine gun for training..WellI'm lieing i actually slipped off for about 2 minutes and th sergent hit me with tear gas couldnt get mask in ime and needless to say I stayed up for the rest of the OP (Observation Point)

LMFAO!!!

They made us go in with no mask and we couldn't come out 'till we puked. lol!

Got hit at night during a training mission once. Didn't get it too bad. It was pitch black outside (down in Ft. Chaffee, AR.) just heard the pop and the hissing. Threw my mask on as quick as I could but still got hit a bit.

lol damn that must have sucked, our second and third time we had to go maskless, but the first time we went in and got a taste of pain then we could mask up

Oh, that's right. I always forget you're a canuck. You're just too cool of a bro to be canuck. lol! j/k

Well, our survival training started with some basic "how to keep your ass alive" shit in the beginning. Living off bugs, and pine needles, and shit like that, but about half way through it turned into a huge Escape and Evasion training scenario. And lemme tell ya, they made that shit as real as possible just short of real bullets. They gave us a compas and a shitty ass hand drawn map with about a dozen check points/safe houses on it and said, "Good luck soldier!"
Did that doe about three days, and is seemed that just as we got to a safe house, we were flushed out again.
After that was over, they took us back to the barracks and let us fall asleep for about an hour and a half and then busted in on us, threw gunny sacks over our heads, and shuffled us onto a busted ass bus. They drove for quite a while, constantly harrassing us to keep us awake. We arrive at our destination only to find that we are now in a POW training scenario. Went through some hell for the next 36 hours.
Tough freakin' time but I wouldn't trade that training for the world!

damn that sounds rough, ours started fri night ended sun morning,we did a class lesson to learn how to keep our asses alive before hand, then we got dropped off in pairs with a map, under complete noise and light disicpline,we heard people often but didnt know who they were so we hid,had to find out way to check points like you and end at a guarded intersection and get to a truck without being scene,i spent 5 hours in water slowly moving through a ditch to the truck locations, prob only about a kilometre but it was heavily guarded,me and my partner made it to the trucks about 30 mins before sun up,after the sun came up nobody made it successfully. it was pretty damn hard

The E&E was tough but more so just physically. The POW camp was a mind fuck!! I spent 8 hours in a 2'x2' square box, got the crap beat out of me, hosed down in about 38 deg F temps., and then interrogated for hours on end. To finish it off, they put a bunch of us in a room together with some smooth talking SOB that just talked to like he was our friend. He only brought up contravercial subjects and the next thing we know, everybody has turned against eachother. This group that was supposed to be a team, supposed to be on the samr side. It was a major mind fuck I tell ya!

im glad we didnt have to do the pow shit, but considering my course was all 17-18yr olds i doubt they would have wanted to mind fuck us to bad

Of course we were all 18 and older but it didn't seem to bother them to put it to us. I was just over 18. I went into the AF right out of HS. Took the summer and then of I went. Tell ya what, I'll NEVER forget what I went through that's for damn sure!

its with you for life thats sure, but i think it makes a man a better man

Was up for around 36 hours one time and at the end of the 36 hours i had to drive home 2 hours at night. Weirdest feeling I ever had. Kinda of like you're dreaming while driving. And you don't even care if you get in an accident. Could have been cause the girl i was driving with was annoying me.

24 hours is nothing. Going 36 plus is always fun. I get goofy/delerious. I do it about once every other week. Wake up, be up about 8 hours, work 12, BUT, when I get off work, it's then around 5 p.m., can't go to bed, it's my friday, so i'll stay up until saturday morning when all the bars are closed or me and my friends split up to go home.
