Training while sick?

Snappy

New member
I just wanted to see what your opinions are about how to train, if at all, while you're sick. I had a terrible case of the flu for an entire week, and was barely able to get out of bed, much less make it to the gym. Of course, I felt extremely guilty, but there wasn't much I could do.

Does anyone find that working out while sick helps them get well faster? Or is the safest bet to take it easy and wait until you feel better to get back to the routine?

Sign me,
Feeling well, but a tad flabby.

Thanks :)

What's to feel guilty about ?? Flu is a rough thing for your body to fend off or deal with. That's why you felt like shit & could barely get out of bed. Imagine the red blood cell battle field.... and you're worried about hitting chest day? LOL! Don't worry about it. Part of training is recovery. And when your body needs it, LISTEN! Because if you don't it will MAKE you listen whether you want to or not. THEN, you have to stay out of the gym even longer.

You will only be running yourself into the ground if you train while sick. You will not recover from the workouts and you will likely prolong recovery from the illness.

Thanks for all the great and positive feedback. I'm glad I decided to rest up, and I can get back to business with renewed enthusiasm. ;)

training with fever can cause heart problems I have been told - as in, your heart is weaker with the flu, so high-intensity training can be dangerous. Double check this info thought as this is something someone in my martial arts club said, so it's likely 3rd hand info.
