How Bad Is Milk For You?

^^ agreed I live off milk and water

quick story:
I'm from a big family all my cousins are huge, 6'4" and up and built (I'm 6'6") we must've drank thousands of gallons of milk growing up, no soda, no water, just milk. Except for my cousin tim, he wouldn't touch it, not even for cereal. Today he's only about 5'10" and 150lbs (we joke that there was a mix-up at the hospital). Could be coincidence but I think drinking milk with all that igf and hgh they give the cows might have had an effect.

After reading all the posts, what do I say? I love milk, as well. If you're worried about your bf%, then it's probably best to cut down the milk consumption a bit, especially if you're drinking whole milk. 1% has less fat and more protein than whole milk (and tastes like s*#t). The lactose can add extra lbs, if you're not careful. I use 1% twice a day in protein shakes.

I can't believe that people can have bad things to say about milk. If you want to bulk then buy the full-fat Jersey cream if you're trying to cut then buy the zero-fat stuff. I drink at least a litre a day. If you are generally restricting calories then maybe you'd prefer some slower-acting carbs but otherwise ...

Of course, if it gives you the raging squits then you'll have to miss out on this glorious food. I rate milk second only to eggs.

Check out Labrada's site. They have a big write up on the evils of milk. It is loaded with Bovine IGF-1, which does many things that bodybuilders want, but also makes tumors grow, etc. I still drink it, but it gave me the "Just toured a sausage making plant" feeling, anyway.

If you drink a liter (about 1/4 gallon) of milk a day , you are drinking quite alot of sugar. No concerns for insulin resistance? Lactose may be low gi but has a high insulin response.

I can't agree that the sugar in that amount of milk qualifies as quite a lot of sugar. A cup of milk will have about 10g of lactose which I would dismiss as almost negligable. A litre will thus have, maybe, around 50g. Maybe not negligable over the course of a day but certainly not greater than irrelevant unless I'm otherwise overdoing sugars.

Beside the great taste and colour, milk is also rich in calcium, riboflavin and vitamins A, D, B12 and a source of tryptophan which is a key amino acid for promoting sleep and protein synthesis. Conveniently, it also packs a decent amount of protein.

Come on, guys, it's milk...

It's like asking "uhhh, will cake make you fat?" and responding with "you are unable to digest the fats and carbohydrates, and there are not enough enzymes in the chocolate mousse, etc."

The answer is simpler: just look at the F'ing nutritional information  . There are about 10-12 grams of sugar and 3-7 grams of fat in each cup of milk. If you chug 45 gallons a day of the stuff, you'll be consuming lots of sugar and fat. Of course you'll gain some weight, and it'll be bad for you. It's not because of the mucus, or blood, or this or that, etc.

Some people have sworn it causes acne, or bloating...whatever, it's genetics for some people. But with most people, a few glasses a day provides a good source of protein, calcium, and fats.

I totally agree and if you dont want to get fat then cut the fatty foods out man some of you guys must be really F***kin dense it stands to reason if you eat fat youl get fat anyway muscle needs fat to build so do some more research you planks...
