THose of you who drink fast carbs DURING your workout

here is my take :

I do think that for someone trying to BULK , gatorade during workouts are a VERY good IDEA . why ? Because , like they said it , it keeps replenishing muscle glycogen levels , therefore , better recuperation , more endurance , strenght and stamina . Good STUFF .

BUT , for somone trying to LOSE FAT A.K.A. cutting , I really don't think it is a good idea . Why ? Because whenever we are lifting or doing cardio we are TRYING to utilize OUR OWN body FAT FOR FUEL , so if you keep using simple carbs while lifting , you will NEVER use your OWN bodyfat for fuel when lifting . I DO know that most of the energy when lifting will come from stored liver and muscle glycogen anyway , BUT if we can TAP our own body fat for fuel when lifting , EVEN a LIL BIT , ( let's say 80 % from glycogen and 20 % from your own body fat ) that is already a good thing .

You don't burn fat while exercising to any appreciable degree. Your body works on a 24 hour clock, it's the calorie deficit that forces your body to use up fat stores. That being said each workout should be as intense as possible with protein and carbs fully loaded and ready to go. When cutting i simply cut out all carbs after the workout. When bulking i continue eating them till the evening in all my meals. And get fat easily, just like you, just don't become paranoid about it.

But whatever phase of training i'm in, i drink 50 grams of dextrose and 50 grams of protein 45 min before the workout. I have NEVER had a bad workout using this system. I get super pumped and just can't run out of energy, every rep and set is 110%. The cardio session that follows is great as well. Water is all i sip during those workouts. Give it a try. and like i said when cutting, no more carbs after that, when bulking continue to eat them PW. It's a simple and effective formula.

TIme out.........you've never had a bad workout or one of the "energy depleted" sessions where you just muster through and get the hell out of there? I find it very hard to believe. You either have been training for just a brief period, OR you are a perfect exception.......if so, props man, I know first hand that if I consume calories to close to my workout, my routine suffers......

This is a perfect example of what works for one MAY NOT work for others.....keep this in mind..........everyone is different......same with diet.....

Well this is my point exactly. I have had those depleted workout all the time, it's just part of life. BUT what i'm saying is that whenever i have this dextrose and portein in the ammounts i listed prior to my workouts they're always great. I have not had an exception yet! Even when i have a less energetic workout on it's still 100%. Give it a shot as i think i've found the holy grail for workout energy for myself.

o.k...I'm always up for giving anything a shot........so, when is your meal following your workout and what time of the day do you train? How is your diet up to that point?

Let me point out why i started doing this. When i would cut of keep my calories at a maintenance level or more i found myself getting really full and tight muscles after my PW shake and meal. This lead me to think that would'nt it be great to go into a workout session with my muscles full and super tight, so i reversed the order and started having my PW dextrose BEFORE the workout. Within 45 minutes my muscles would fill out like small ballons. When i hit the gym in this state my workouts feel like i'm on the sauce even when completly off. Seriousley give it a try for a week. Get your dextrose and penta protein from PF. I use 50 grams Dextrose 50 Grams Protein, only on workout days.

I can't eat anything during while working out because it's makes me sick to my stomach and I feel that I am not getting a good lift in. After I lift, I relax with a protein shake and 52g of dextrose/maltodextrin coming from Sweet Tarts :).

i'm curious to know how big you guys are that don't agree with the carbs (and protein) before/during training. fess up guys, what's your stats?

i'll bet the bros that are doing the nutrition before/during training have better stats...any takers? :worried: :p

i'll start: 6'2", 265#, 12% (bf% by my own estimation, but i have a pretty good feel for it and i'm honest :verygood: ).

i only say this because I KNOW that smart nutrition works, because it's worked on me, and by 'smart' i mean the right types of macronutrients at the right times.

my comments are -- as always -- with due respect to everyone elses on this board.

>>>> But why dextrose BEFORE workouts !?!? makes no sense , it is better to eat a slow digesting carb ( low glycemic ) that will provide energy for a longer period of time , with dextrose you will have a peak of energy but it will fall right after ...
