THose of you who drink fast carbs DURING your workout

You might want to contact the Gatorade Sports Science Institute, Barrington, ILL at 1-800-616-4774 and ask for the director Dr Bob Murray and let him know he's got it all wrong. :)

I called him and he said to tell you hi, and that he was sorry he couldn't come over last night. He also said that Gatorade is primarily for people to throw in their face while running, playing football, basketball, boxing, you know like in the commercials. Finally he said that I should watch the DVD's of top pros like Cutler and Coleman and count how many times you see them drink Gay-ter-ade during their workouts... :chomp:

IMO drinking anything caloric during the workout is not good. Infact, you shouldn't eat anything within an hour of your workout, excepts I do take some BCAA's with Crystal Lite right before I leave and then drink a few liters of water during WO. Caloric foods/drinks during WO messes with your insulin at the wrong time, you're supposed to shuttle the nutrients after the workout AFTER you have just stimulated your muscles using water and blood to pump the muscles and replenish water loss during WO.
I going to have to agree with this..........no calories during your workout.....among many other things, you do not want to deprive the muscles of blood but forcing it to rush and digest or incorporate (if liquid) another product.............just have a Pre-meal 1-2 hours before.........a PW shake immidiately PW and a low gi high protein meal 1.5 after that..........

Do you still load on simple carbs postworkout? Drinking carbs during my workouts is one of the best moves by far I have made recently as far as my training goes, but I am wondering if I still need carbs postworkout?
I'm scared to read throught this post right now. I know there will be some major points I disagree with and I'm too busy with school to go on a crusade.

Mavy, your body processes the carbohydrate much differently during and after exercise. The exercise response blunts insulin. High GI carb taken during exercise mainly functions to keep blood glucose elevated for direct use as fuel.

Post exercise, your body is in quite a different state. Gut enzymes and insulin responce change. Now high GI carbohydrate will 1. replenish spent glycogen and 2. restore the anabolic drive.

here is my take :

I do think that for someone trying to BULK , gatorade during workouts are a VERY good IDEA . why ? Because , like they said it , it keeps replenishing muscle glycogen levels , therefore , better recuperation , more endurance , strenght and stamina . Good STUFF .

BUT , for somone trying to LOSE FAT A.K.A. cutting , I really don't think it is a good idea . Why ? Because whenever we are lifting or doing cardio we are TRYING to utilize OUR OWN body FAT FOR FUEL , so if you keep using simple carbs while lifting , you will NEVER use your OWN bodyfat for fuel when lifting . I DO know that most of the energy when lifting will come from stored liver and muscle glycogen anyway , BUT if we can TAP our own body fat for fuel when lifting , EVEN a LIL BIT , ( let's say 80 % from glycogen and 20 % from your own body fat ) that is already a good thing .

Yea in yo face Ulter :argue:

good thread mavy .i have been using a prewokout shake with some dextrose and whey and i have been gatting some incredible pumps and stamina in the gym i have also been using hi gi carbs im my post workout shake i think i azm going to try and lower the amount and type of carbs post workout and see what happens

while bulking, pwo shake is like 2 scoops of gatorade, 2 of whey, while cutting its 1 cup oats with 2 scoops whey.

i drink literally 30 seconds after my last set. no drinking while working out. its just always worked well for me.

You shouldn't drink or eat ANYTHING during your workout. It fucks with your GH levels with or without R-ALA.

Train 1 hour after training, High glycemic carbs+protein immediatly after and a huge meal 1 hour later.

My 2 cents:

Heavy digestion takes place in the stomach, not intestines. The intake of low molecular weight food such as hydrolized protein, peptides of various amino acids, BCAA'S, sugars, will immediately dump out of the stomach into the small intestines where they are readily absorbed providing quick energy.

So, I would suggest not eating a T-bone or sirloin prior to workout. (heeheeheehee)

PEACE
