Post Competition Rebound Help

I thought I had prepared for post competition rebound for months prior to my show, but nothing could have prepared me for what it's really like. I competed just one week ago and this week I am a whale. I have no abs left and holding tons of water in my abs and back. Since I've read up on it, I know a lot of females experience this, but is there any way to fix it? It's making me a complete head case!

I didn't go too crazy with my eating post competition. I did finish off 2 bags of rice cakes and 1/2 jar peanut butter on Sunday following the show. But all week I have been right back on my competition diet with the only change being adding in 1 serving fruit daily.

I'm supposed to go out of town with friends this weekend and won't even put on a swimsuit when just last weekend I was walking around on stage in a itty-bitty posing suit.

Any advice would be appreciated :)

If you get off your diet over night after comp, you will retain a lot of water and will gain weight. Be careful with what you eat. Stay on your diet and the water bloat will go away. That said, don't be on contest diet, just a bit more flexible then when competing. I usually allow myself to gain about 10 to 12lbs after contest, gaining 1 to 1.5lbs per week, avoiding the whale period.

Thank you all for your help. And I did take a diruetic- lasix (oral). I was very very hesitant about taking this, but my friend/coach insisted I needed it.

Wow lasix is very strong I know large men that have had terrible side effects with it. The lasix for sure is what is making you hold a lot of water I would pick up some dandielion root to help a bit also lay off sodium for a bit and make sure your getting no less then a gallon of water a day even better would be two.

Thanks Superqt! That's why I was hesitant to take it, heard lots of horror stories, but to my suprise I felt fine. Won't ever be taking that again though because the water retention is making me crazy!

I have used OTC diretics like Xpel and none OTC I actually prefer the OTC as I find perscription directs often pull out to much water and leave you flat.

Yeah definitely be careful with that stuff. Roids don't kill BB'ers, but diuretics sure as hell have. It's like roulette. Sometimes you can do it and feel perfectly fine, other times you can get yourself in real deep doodoo quickly.

Can be particularly dangerous if your electrolytes are low. You can walk about with low 'lytes, but if you're sufficiently hydrated you can have no symptoms at all. Then when you start losing all your fluids, suddenly you can start experiencing cardiac distress.

Don't use caffeine either. Caffeine triggers a rather large magnesium loss, which combined with the fluid problems, could also be unhealthy.

I agree the rebound is from the Lasix. I am also surprised someone recomended that. It is pretty harsh stuff.
Just keep eating clean and working out and you should stabilize.
