Fruits that don't have Fructose?

actually, not true...well to a point...I have a lady at work who eatd nothing but fruit and veggied...honestly.....a little salmon here and there, but fruit is 99% of her diet......makes for a soft stool, lol, but anyways, she's def. not slim and trim.......a grapefruit for bfast, huge bowl of fruit and maybe a little salad for lunch, and then it's steamed veggies/potatoes for dinner.........

Does she move at all :FRlol:, with that diet and even a little exercise she should slim down. Drop the potatos at dinner and add the salmon or chicken breast.

anything in moderation

Eating only pinapple or whatever fruit you want is a stupid as eating only at McDo's:D

Does this mean I don't have to worry so much about the sugar in the skim milk I drink? (I drink about 4 cups/day)

I see a lot of people here bag on skim milk because the sugar in it has a lot of fructose. It has been a staple for me getting 30-35 grams of my protein each day for the past few years and now you all got me scared.

At work I drink a glass of skim milk with a scoop of ANPB a few times/day it saves me.. dunno what I'd do without it.

Thanks

uh oh...another low carb skim milk subscriber.......shit's gonna go scarce.......hey, it's the wonder potion.......

Only joking bro - personally, I stay away, however fruit is relatively low in fructose compared to things like high fructose corn syrups. Fruit sugars are a mix of fructose and other sugars like glucose. Second, the amount of total sugar in fruit is very low. While the body lacks the ability to convert large quantities of fructose to muscle glycogen effectively, it would be very difficult to consume enough fructose in the form of fruit to make this happen. Fruit has an important place in a well balanced diet, no matter what your goals are. It's loaded with vitamins and fibre...

Excellent post. In addition, there are fruits that have a lower fructose content than those of other fruits. Some of the fruits with with THE LOWEST fructose content and HIGHEST glucose content are bananas, apples, and strawberries.

REMEMBER-->Sucrose IS NO BETTER than fructose, WHY?-------------> SUCROSE--->GLUCOSE + FRUCTOSE

BRAN987: Lactose is a DISACCHARIDE like sucrose. , which is made of 2 smaller single unit sugars called MONOSACHARIDES, except that with lactose it has GALACTOSE as its other monosaccharide as opposed to FRUCTOSE which is found in sucrose.

Another type of dissach is maltose or malt sugar.

Finally.....complex carbs are linked together(as well as dissachs)by a glycosidic linkage via a condesation rxn or by the removal of a water molecule. These complex or long chains of carbs are called "polysaccarides" or STARCH, and has a special linkage called an "alpha glycosydic linkage" between the C1 and C4 carbons, is unbranched and this molecule is also known as amylose. Anthoer highly branched starch with the linkageds between C1 and C6 is called amylopectin is the more common form of animal starch.

The most complesx form and most interesting form of carb for us on this board is Gylcogen. Glycogen is an extremely numbered branched type of stacrh. Our bodies make gycogen to store unused carbs for use later on when our bodies need it and is stored in the liver and muscle (noting that fructose can only be stored in the liver so when liver glycogen is full it convered into fat via gluconeogenisis.....whole point of the thread...)

Sorry for the long ass post, but i thought this might clear up some confusion on carbs.

Ok.. thanks Aston.. so the sugar in milk is Lactose.. a more complex sugar made up of simpler sugars.. (glucos + galactos?) got it.

So I guess my next question is.. does Lactose have a pretty significant negative effect glyemically?

Sorry I'm so dense about this stuff.. I'm a financial analyst.. always struggled in science:confused:

just trying to get bigger and not get fat, like everyone else, and wondering if I shouldn't be drinkin' all this skim *sigh*.

Don't worry JKurz.. can't afford the low carb milk.. looked at the store it's $3.50 for half a gallon

Anyone have a link to a website with the different foods and their glycemic indexes? I used to have a link a couple years ago..
