flexing while training?

what do you guys feel about flesing the muscle on every rep.. ie: when you do a leg press, at the top, completely squeezing out your quad for a killer burn...
anyone train this way? My trainer thought it would be beneficial for me to start flexing more while lifting... ideas or opinions???

Most bodybuildrs do this to make sure their muscles contract to the fullest, and that each rep will be more effective due to the added stress.

It is not a bad routine if you want to fatigue a muscle quicker, but id does hamper flexibilty when you get a lot bigger.

ive always done this. squeeze the muscle for 3 seconds and then release again..it hasnt done anything to my flexability yet...but you said when you get big..so i got plenty of time to stretch yet :)

SG - I'm a big believer in it. Once you start doing it, it becomes habit, a very good habit. It's really only practical on isolation excercises, but it makes a difference.

I agree with gymtime, its a very good habit, and it kind of forces you to use good form. I can't lift without doing that anymore, it just doesn't feel like I'm doing my job.

I try to squeeze as hard as I can for each rep. I guess this is why I let some unusual noises out when working legs.

cool guys thanks!!! i just need to get a little more ripped and i guess my trainer thought this type of workout would help it faster :)

Usually I'm too worried about getting squished, or dropping the bar, or passing out to concentrate on flexing.

But yes, in the isolations, it sometimes helps you focus on the muscles you're trying to target. Won't make a difference in growth, though. It's not adding any extra training stimulus.

I fatigue alot faster and really feel it where I'm suppose to if I flex at the peak of a contraction.
