OK! I'm holed up in the Marriot in Scottsdale now.
Consultation #2 went REALLY well. I'm glad I went back to see Dr. Borsand. It was a completely different experience and I could tell he does this for a living. lolol
He does female bodybuilders, and told me NOT to go under the muscle. Reason - doing heavy upper body lifting like bench press/dumbell press will contract my pecs and will gradually push the implant to the armpits. I'll look OK standing up, but they'll be to the sides lying down. Also - I have a pretty wide cleavage area as it is. (You can see my ribs running down the front where there should be cleavage.) Dr. Borsand told me that with under muscle placement, he cannot close that gap, and it will get wider if I continue to lift. He recommended a subfacial placement, instead. This is above the muscle, but below the subfacia (that thin membrane covering the muscle). It will solve the problem of displacement, but still give the "under muscle" look.
Dr. Borsand also recommended a different shaped implant. In my first consultation, Dr. Leon wanted to use a high profile implant. Dr. Borsand wants to use a mid profile, which is a little less torpedo like - but bigger circumference. I have a large ribcage, so need an implant that adequately covers.
We talked about size last. He agreed that 425 - 450 was a good size for me, and I agreed to let him make the final decision (in that range) when he did the surgery. My left breast is slightly bigger than my right, so he said he'd fill them accordingly to try and even them out.
I felt very confortable with him and he was very thorough. It was the right decision to meet with him and have him do the surgery. Jeff feels the same.
-----
After the consultation, I paid for the surgery and got my blood drawn. they also took digital pictures and asked me to sign a form so they could use my before and afters on their website or for advertising. I did. I was then instructed to read a big booklet and initial on lots of pages. the book covers preparing for surgery.
What not to do the day before and of surgery:
- no smoking
- no ibuprofen/aspirin
- no vitamin E
- no alcohol
- no toenail polish
- no makeup, mosturizers, perfumes or deoderant the day of surgery
- no jewelry the day of surgery
- no eating or drinking after midnight w/surgery the next morning (this will be the hardest. I eat every damn 3 hours, people. I'm starving when I wake up!
)
What to do:
- shower the night before and the morning of surgery. Use anti-bacterial soap.
- wear a loose button down or zip up shirt
- wear slip on shoes or slippers
- wear loose, elastic or tie waist shorts/sweats
- wear socks, because the operating room is cold
- bring someone with you to drive you home and babysit you for at least 24 hours after surgery
The booklet also contains a 3 page list of stuff you're not supposed to take. Garlic and licorice are on there...
ok...what else...
oh. I've got a power of attorney form that I have to have notarized. This is in case something bad happens to me during surgery -who will make medical decisions on my behalf. I'll go down to the front desk and take care of that this afternoon. I don't have to have it, but it makes me feel better. Just in case.
Jeff was given a 2 page list of instructions to follow since he's taking care of me. He's supposed to:
- make me lift my arms above my head for 5 reps or so every hour for 3 days, starting in the recovery room
- make me take a 2 hour nap when we get back to the room
- make me eat a little something throughout the day
- make me drink beverages with sugar/caffeine to help jumpstart my system
- make me get up and move around
- take me out to dinner that night
- remove my ace bandage and make me take a shower before bed
- make me lie down on my new boobs for 15 minutes before bed, and continue to do this for 4-6 weeks
- make me take my pain pills/antibiotics
I received a prescription for:
- Cephalexin, 500mg = 21 pills. 1 every 8 hours till gone.
- Flexeril, 10mg = 12 pills. Not sure of the dosing schedule. I'll ask the pharmacist.
- Darvocet (?mg) = 30 pills. 1 every 4 hours for pain.
- Promethazine suppository, 25mg = 3. 1 every 8 hours for nausea. oh, boy. looking forward to those.
Haven't gotten them filled, yet. Will do it tonight when I'm at Wal-Mart buying slippers.
Costs so far:
Breast surgery = $5100.00
Hotel = $275.00
Prescriptions = I'm guessing around $200.00
Surgery is at 9:30 am. I'm excited.
