Is there a point to training?

First of all, I love this board. You guys rule. Secondly, right now I am in college. My issue is this is there a point to me lifting on monday If I know I have a midterm on tues and wont be getting enough sleep. Secondly, I know alcohol is terrible for you but in college drinking can be sometimes unavoidable. So should I train friday afternoon if I know that I will be drinking later on that night. Also, lets say you lift hardcore on friday eat a good meal with protein ect but then you go knock back 8 beers, but after you eat some more and drink 2L of water, is your training all for naught in this case? Thanks
 
Hey, this is my opinion to your questions.

1. Don't worry if you won't have enough recovery after monday's workout. Overtraining results from constant lack of rest and lack of nutrition, one day will not harm you.

2. Yes train on friday, any training is better than none at all, and pluss alcohol is very rich in carbohydrates, so it will fill up your glycogen stores. Don't make it a habit though. Arnold's postworkout nutrition included pitcher of beer and a whole chicken.


3. Don't concentrate on these specific days. Weightlifting is all about consistency, few days ...even weeks won't affect your strength or physique, assuming you are recreational lifter and natural. Just don't make this a habit though, bad habits are hard to get rid of. You have to think of training as a journey, which for some people takes DECADES.

So at the end its better to train even if your nutrition is under part than not to train at all.

Now it`s dawning on me that in my drinking days, On Sunday morning (or afternoon lol) when I got up after a 20 beer Saturday night my muscles really felt full. I never understood why. I know that`s not how to do it but it just shows when the body needs something... FEED IT. I`m just realising I was way undernourished.
 
It's all a matter of priority... you'll get answers you want to hear, and answers you don't... it doesn't really matter though, as you will do what you feel is more important, or makes you most happy. So just do it... some is better then none, and more is better then that...

Take Monday off to prepare for your exam. A little rest bever hurts. Just postpone your training a day or two later when you have the time.

Unavoidable?? I think not!! It is all about discipline. Getting drunk and training do not mix. Again, I would postpone your training for a couple of days so you get get rid of the alcohol out of your system.

This certainly isn't good. Eight beers is excessive. When you drink this much you are pissing away valuable vitamins and minerals, plus you are dehydrating your system.

Sounds to me like you are trying to figure out how to schedule your drinking around your training. Do a little research about the effects of alcohol on the system and its correlation with training. You will find disturbing reviews. Get back with us and let us know what you think.
 
I made pretty decent strength gains drinking 6-10 beers 3 times a week for a 6 months or so... now I hardly drink at all and have hit some significant plateaus. not getting enough sleep I think.
 
hehhehee. My friends are in the EXACT same boat as you.

Not a whole lot of money for food, supoliments, and not a lot of time for training. Then there is that whole party/drug/alchohol thing:)

Just figure out your priorities. If socializing and hanging w/friends is more important, there is no shame in that.
But....

If you want to train. Then dont waste any f***ing time.
Go hardcore and cut the BS.
 
As a college student i think i've finally found the perfect way to mix training with drinking/having fun. i workout sunday-tuesday-thursday. this way i can drink friday and saturday without such ill effects. for a long while i used to drink wed-saturday and i found that on the days that i trained it made progress very very slow. now that i am only drinking fridays and saturdays i have had great improvements in strength. :P about the midterms, what i do, since mine come in waves every month or so, i just take that weak off and use it as a "resting period". for me taking these frequent breaks has proved to be very useful, i usually come back way stronger. anyway, after drinkin' remember to drink tons of water and eat (i actually always prepare some gatorade and protein shake ahead of time to chug down once i get back home). peace.
