I'm rehabilitating a lower back injury (6 months old and was a strain/sprain) and the one thing which seems to help better than anything else is taking 45 minute hikes in a local park at a very relaxed pace (wouldn't even be considered cardio). The trails are uneven and there are hills and declines. The hikes make my back feel so much better as the uneven trails with hills, etc. force my back muscles to all go to work for balance and stabilization.
I've been doing this 4 - 5 times a week and would like to do the hikes every morning of every week. In addition on Mon, Wed and Fri evenings I will work on my back strengthening exercises which consists of light weights (5 lbers) and back specific movements like squats with no weight, etc.
Are the hikes going to push me into overtraining?
Would these 45 minutes hikes everyday be too much for a healthly conditioned person who also trains 3 times a week in the evening?
I just always remember everyone saying take some days off and do nothing but doing nothing drives me crazy.
