I ain't a heavy lifter when it coems to benching. i been off throughout the years on and off but been lifting less than a year right now i just do 140 bench for 10 reps when i do dumbell press is with 55 for first two sets then 50 for the rest. i when tot ry push ups today which i never do and i could only get liek 8-10 reps what the hell it fell heavy . i wieght 199 lbs i know i ain't pressign all my body weight so what the hell is going on? my triceps ain't that weak i do the push doesn cable with 90-110 lbs and i use dip machine and do 10-12 reps with 150 lbs is there a good fast and easy way to improve push ups? i need to get to the 50-80 reps for a thing i liek to try out for

yes i know but shouldn't be that hard for me its not like i'm pushing all my weight damn dude this sucks if ineed to get to the 50+ ranger its goign to take me forever

Hand and feet placement is a large part as well. Elbow and arm tendon and ligament strength another portion of the equation. And muscle strength in your pecs, delts, and arms.

Make sure you are using absolute proper form. Extra reps will come in time. Work on strengthening your front delts, pecs, and arms and just keep working at it. Good luck.

hey bro, i went through the same thing as you did, and followed the navy's advice:

https://www.cnet.navy.mil/nascweb/ocs/conpro.pdf

they have recommendations for situps, running, and pushups in there... the frequency with which they want you to do pushups might seem like a little much, but it worked really well for me... combined w/going to the gym regularly, i was up to around 75 pushups in a few months (and i was barely able to do 20 at the start)... advice: after i hadn't done pushups in a long while, i tested myself again last weekend and could only get 50 or so, but w/a little more practice i should be reaccustomed to them in no time... oh yeah, the only reason i was practicing pushups again is to ensure that i pass the physical readiness test for OCS (i should be there soon!!)

.....Because you are out of shape. 200lbs, and benching 140lbs 10 times is just weak. If you want to hit 50+ push-ups, you should shoot for doing your weight for 10 reps. Your stomach probably has fat which is causing additional stain on your arms, shoulders, and chest. Do some cardio to lose the blubber. Where are you failing at and where does it start to burn when doing push-ups?
Work those areas with freeweights, toss the cable shit.

Do the basic exercises(with freeweight): bench-presses, shoulder presses, curls, and tri extensions/kickbacks. Do actual Dips with your chest leaning forward. Do everything with proper form even if you have drop down in weight.

When you do push-ups, put on the headphones and crank out as many possible until you collapse.
Try to bump it up one more each day until you hit your goal.
Work at it every day, it will take time but you'll get there.

Not entirely sure you should be working your chest and surrounding muscles everyday, but I guess in boot camp and similar things, pushups are a daily occurance. I only do pushups on chest days, but I'm not 100% sure whether doing them every day would be bad or not. Every other day would probably be better.

Pushups and situps for military physical fitness tests have less to do with strength and more to do with endurance. In order to develop endurance you are going to have to concentrate on endurance type exercise- especially if you want to become a Ranger. You are also going to need to start doing alot of cardio and situps.
One method of improving your pushups and situps is to concentrate on doing the maximum amount of pushups in 1 minute, which means once you start you don't stop doing pushups
until 1 minute has elapsed. Do that for 3 sets, 2-3 minutes rest between. Do that everyday for 4 weeks, then cut down to only 3 days/week. Alternate those 2 schedules until you can do 80 pushups in 2 minutes. Do the same thing for situps, but shoot for 90 situps in 2 minutes. You are also going to need to get your 2 mile run down to less than 14 minutes. If you have anymore questions let me know, my wife is a graduate of the U.S.Army Master of Fitness Course and she could help you more- she always maxs out even by male standards.

I ain't really fat but i do have a gut lol i usualyl was 175-180 then i jump to 200 lbs thats probably why my jogging sucks now extra weight but i'm 5'9.5" height. no cycle yet but will start winny alogn with clen in a couple of weeks to boost my strength up

Sadist said it best. I was in the Army for 5 yrs & I am 10x stronger now that I was then however, I can do less pushups. It's 90% endurance. The majority of the guys that max them are light as hell. The best thing you can do for pushups is pushups, the best thing you cna do for situps, is situps and the best thing for a 2 mile run, is, you guessed it, a 2 mile run. There are many strategies but, if you don't perfect the exercise at hand you will not do your best. For example, a lot of guys that strictly lift for power or bench press competitions will only do that certain exercise & a few supportive groups. There is a guy at my gym who is mainly into bench press competitions, 3 days a week he will come in & do nothing but bench press.

fuck more in the misssionary style

seriously, good cardio, feels great, and that definately strengthens those m uscles for pushups,i can do mad pushups and i have mad striations in my delts, and i FUCK A LOT!correlation?I THINK SOOOO! :)
