Fewer sets for smaller muscle groups??

I've read a few posts lately about training larger muscle groups with more exercises than smaller ones. For example, on back and bi day, you'd do 3 back excercises but only 2 bi excercises because bis are smaller.

This is the first time I've ever heard of this. I've always done every muscle group for 3 or sometimes 4 sets. Is there any relevance to this?

I feel there is some relevance for this. First off your smaller muscle groups are just that, smaller. Therefore they really don't need the volume. Nextly you ahave to remember your smaller muscle groups are indirectly involved w/ your larger muscle groups. i.e. biceps w/back and tris w/ chest and shoulders.

I have always agreed with this... for example I dont think your biceps need as many sets / exercises as your back or chest do.. just my $.02.
:D:D

In my opinion, if you are natural, it doesnt take more than a few hard sets to stimulate growth while still recovering fully. After 14 years I have come to realize that less is better and my gains in strength and size are smashing my old personal records.

Another reason is that the larger groups are limited by weak links, thus you should incorporate an isolation exercise for them.
