Constipation ( serious question)

I have a serious question about constipation..

It started about 3 months ago on vacation with a friend, drinking and partying for a weekend. Normally i will go to the toilet 1-2 times a day, but i wasnt on the toilet all weekend, and not the next week. After 6-7 days of no poo-poo i took some pills ( dulcolax ) and some was released, but not all. Another week went by, and i got to the doctor, who gave med a bottle of laxatives ( lactulose) and klyx. I took these for a few weeks, and tried to stop, but the constipation came back.. after about 4 weeks no laxatives helped, and i was sent to the hospital and "cleaned" with something looking like a hose, since the 4-5 different laxatives they gave me didnt help.. ( not much fun)..

I have been to coloscophy, but they couldnt find anything. I drink about 2-2,5 gallons of water each day, and take psyllium husk for fibre, but this doesnt help much.. The only things that seems to help is acupuncture, and "Nozinan" (psycho-drug) but only for a day, and im constipated for another week ( until i go to the acupunture again/take another pill.)... I got some Nozinan pills from my father who uses them for serious sleeping problems, and depression.

I dont know why this is happening, and what might be wrong since this started so quickly, and still is such a problem.. Could be related to stress, alot to do at work etc, but i dont have any depression. ( expept for loosing almost 30lbs the last months..)

Anyone have a clue what this might be / how i can solve this?

Not taking any medications, used to smoke mj/hasch regulary but not for the last 6-8 weeks ( not any at all)
 
Since you've already tried Dulcolax (which is really just a stool softner, but a strong one) and lactulose, I'd try senna (brand name Senokot), I believe there is an extra-strength version available at most drug stores. Also, check out www.colonblow.com . I know it looks like a joke, but the product is real and it does work. Definitely go back to your doctor, hopefully it's nothing serious but it could be diverticulosis (bad, but not terrible) or a GI tumor (not good). As far as the Nozinan, I'm suprised that's helping, it shouldn't be. Be careful with that stuff though, it's serious shit.
 
How much food are you consuming? Also, have you had any drastic changes in your life? Low food consumption or a very high level activity will lead to problems like this. When I went through boot camp, I had the same thing happen to me. Its because I wasn't getting enough food and my whole life had drastically changed.

BrandonXJ: Senna was one of the things they gave me at the hospital that didnt work.. I dont want to take more laxatives since they may destroy the colon function over time ( the colon specialist told me this)

artrius: Currently consuming about 4-6 slices of bread + sallad + one chicken (grilled) each day + psyllium husk 3 times a day. Yes, there have been alot going on lately at work / personal, so i think this has alot to do with it. Especially since the drug Nozinan ( which reallly calms me down) seems to help a great deal.

Also this constipation has lead to another problem, which Im waiting to get checked. A surgeon i was at told me i most likely have gotten a "anal prolaps" which needs surgery, because of all the hard pressing..... :(

I dont do much activity since im always lethargic due to little food consumption.. I have tried to eat normal ( 10-12 slices a bread + 1 whole chicken + 7 shakes a day, but this only "fills me up" alot faster)..
How long did it take for you to get rid of the problem ?

In addition to continuing your high fiber intake I would suggest a 1/3 cup pure Aloe Vera juice every day. I to have struggled with constipation and Aloe helped a great deal.
 
About how many calories are you taking in every day, then? From what you've said, it seems like you are taking in a very low amount of calories (not sure how much 1 grilled chicken is for you... one serving or one bird?). If you're trying to cut, realize that cutting out too many calories will destroy your metabolism and only help you lose muscle.

As a general thumbrule, somewhere in the neighborhood of 12 x bodyweight should be the number of calories you take in for fat loss, and around 15 x bodyweight would be for maintenance. Are you taking in around these amounts?

As for how long it took me to get rid of the problem... I know I had it all the way through boot camp (2 months) and then a little while after. Things settled down after that, so I'd say a few weeks after I got out of that environment, I was somewhat normal.

Still, though, whenever I don't eat much, I end up being very infrequent, such as when I'm trying to lose bodyfat. I make sure that I take in at least 30g-40g of fiber everyday to help maintain regularity.
