HIIT treadmill or eliptical??

i've always done it on the treadmill, ut last night there were noneavailable and i didn't feel like running outside so i used the eliptical which made me angry....what a difference. i barely made it through 17 minutes on there....maybe it's because i'm so used to running but i think i got a better workout on the eliptical....after the 20 minutes was up i went in the locker room and sat on the bench shaking for about 5 minutes before i could gather my composure and walk home haha

I noticed the same thing when I went from doing HIIT on the treadmill to doing it outside.

I've been doing HIIT on the treadmill off and on for the past month or so... Can make it through a 20-25 minute program (5 min warmup, then 1 min sprint, 1 min recovery cycles) without too many problems.

Yesterday morning I did HIIT outside and man what a difference. 5 min warmup, then 30 second sprint, 30 second recovery cycles. About halfway into each sprint cycle I wanted to die... I was only able to do about 7-8 total cycles before calling it quits (so, about 13 mins of workout outside vs. 25 mins of workout on the treadmill).

Such a huge difference...

Well that is PROBABLY due to the fact that you are more restricted with not only how you run on a treadmill, but also how fast. When you run outside your body is able to do it more naturally and at your actual maximum effort instead of the 10 or 12mph the treadmill permits..

treadmill also speeds up and slows down gradually, eliptical is immediate, you get more T.I.H.* on the eliptical.

I have found that most cardio activates dont' carry over to one another. I can blast it on the ellipitcal but it is a different ball game on jump rope or tread or boxing.
