Okay ladies, I know this is pathetic, I've tried to do my "homework" my "math" and cannot figure it all out! I so desperatly want to know exactly what to eat how many grams of fats/ proteins/ carbs/ to eat etc. I tried to figure out fitday because everyone here makes it sound so easy, and am embarassed to say that I can't get it? LOL. I'm a vegetarian of 22 years now, including no fish (though i take my EFA'S) And I want to do a 40/30/30 split, on 1,400 calories a day. I'm 5'3 and my weight fluctuates between 118 and 122. I train hard every day and cardio everyday usually running sprints HIIT. I don't necessarily want someone to do my math for me, I just want to UNDERSTAND so i can do it myself for a lifetime!! Thanks for any help!!! :qt:

On fitday.com, you would enter ALL of the foods that you eat every day incluiding calories and all other macros .... I like to enter all of the food I eat manually(new custom food)...then just read off the label....after you add in serving size, fitday will break down EVERYTHING for that day in a chart.....am I not explaining something else?? Try to see if you can figure it out from here....I'd love to help if you have any more questions.

As far as what breakdown you should use...look around here at some diets for examples. It depends on whenther you would like to lose weight, maintain, put on some muscle mass :)

---Good luck

Well, fitday comes up with all the macros for you - it shows up in a chart on the 1st page there.....

I add my food based on the ingredients in the meal. So today I had 1 egg yolk & 6 egg whites, so I went to All Foods, Eggs then chose Egg yolk, raw and egg whites, raw. On the home page - I then changed the totals & amounts I used.....

Hope that helps....

I don't use fitday, so I can't help you on that. :( Sorry. Good luck .... :)

BUT ............

Don't do HIIT everyday. It should be every other - treat it like a weight workout. You train hard "everyday"? Do you havea rest day in there?

Ummm, I don't quite understand what you don't understand ... what I'm going to do is tell you the numbers, explain how I got them and let you stew over it and then you can ask any questions you need to:

Based on 1400 calories a day at 40p/30c/30f you need 140 g. protein/105 g. carb/47 g. fat. (in caloric breakdown: 560 calories come from protein, 420 calories from carbs, 423 calories from fat).

How did I get that? Multiple 1400 by 40% then divide the result by 4 (the amount of grams per caloric unit of protein); you will repeat that for carbs, but obviously multiplying by 30%, since carbs and protein have the same amount of caloric units per gram you still divide by 4; for fat, however, you will divide by 9, since fat has 9 grams per calorie.

I know you said you didn't want someone doing the math for you but ... to understand things that involve math I find it easier to backward engineer the problem ... if I know what I need to get then I can understand better how to get there.

Regarding FitDay, I didn't care for it and ended up using CalorieKing, but it ain't free.

Thanks girls!!! =) I will try all of the above. Musclemom.... that math " computes" lol =) i understand... now i just have to figure out what foods to eat to help me rech those goals. I know you guys will probably be mad at me if i tell you, but i haven't eaten one starchy carb (i.e. rice, potato, pasta, bread, oatmeal,or refined sugar or flour in their natural sources ) in 4 months! I do tend to over eat at night and ALWAYS on things like nuts. NO fried foods or anything like that. I have a CARB FEAR!! =( I know there are carbs in plenty of other foods, but you know what i mean... the obvoious ones. .... DAISY GIRL, I make myself take atleast take one day off a week, usually sunday and take my heathen self to church ;) i didn't workout today, b/c im on new BP med's that ZAP allll my energy. It was probably a blessing in disguise! I usually do 5 minute warm up 20 minutes HIIT 1/1 ratio the 5 minute cool down in addition to weight training. If i EVER can figure it out i will post pictures!!

Hi... Complex carbohydrates are very important in a diet(so I've recently learned...kind of always 'knew' it my self but I also had a CARB FEAR before I finally realized the truth :) ). I also have a problem with controling my intake when it comes to NUTS and natural peanutbutter (a very wise woman warned me about the evil power of peanutbutter....how it will call your name at night when you are on a strict diet..hehe)...so I just simply DONT have it around me and it takes care of that.

Take a look around the sticky's at the top of the forum (are you new to the EF?)...they can help you A LOT as far as figuring out what sort of diet might work for you. This, then again comes down to what your goals are ;)
The thing with those low carb diets or in your case NO carb diets....it tends to be really difficult to not crash from them. If you eat mainly protein, it can lead to all kinds of health issues(if for very long periods of time) such as ketosis which causes liver, pancreas, and kidney damage. Also, when you end up overeating at night, try to plan out your meals so that you have 1 meal left before bed time. I like to eat a 4-6oz. serving of lean mean and a small salad or 1c broccoli. This fills me up and then I dont have a problem not eating. Keeping good fats in your diet (such as flax oil, olive oil) will keep you fuller throughout the day, which will also help you not feel hungry later in the day. My food intake is 5-6 meals a day. I keep a log that also keeps my butt in line where I post the meals and what time I eat them. For example:
8am: 1/2c oatmeal with cinnamon+splenda, 1 scoop 100% whey
11am: 1/2c brown rice, 5oz. chicken breast grilled.

Research a lot on EF...there are sooooooo many great threads that helped me a lot. Its great that you are asking questions too, thats what really helped me out a lot!

Best of luck!!!

Hi sweet AriEs!! =) Thanks for the reply! I will be really honest. I'm always trying to recover from an extensive eating disorder as well, and on a daily basis I go back and forth between wanting to be healthy, lean, and in SHAPE, to wanting to be thin, string bean-ish, and runway modelish! It's pathetic but true. In between those times, i either4 eat nothing all day then binge at night, or try to do the smaller portions all day . It's frusterating, but I see a therapist once a week now for a year and it's helped alot! SO.... hopefully eventualy I WILL BEAT THIS!! :verygood: I WANT more than anyting to WANT TO be good to myself to LOVE myself. I think I will take your advice and start a new journal! I'm afraid to start a log on here yet?! Not sure why? Just am :( What do u think? I can't remeber? DO u have one on here? HOw old are you? mind me asking? always looking for gal pals i can relate and connect too ;) thanks chica

You are VERY welcome :)

- First off, before I get into anything....I will clarify that just by reading your reply I STRONGLY encourage you to begin a log on here. It will be the guide that will help you do the RIGHT thing. You obviouslly realize that what you are doing is not healthy for you! We are here to help with ANYTHING that you need....whether its emotional support, diet, training....or simply when you have a bad day :)

You can read my log .... its countdown to competition log(has my name right under it). I am a junior (soon to be senior) in college ...Im studying food nutrition;dietetics. Im only 20(soon 21!!!) years old....and I can say that I can very much relate to how you are feeling right now. I found my self in the same position you are in right now a while back...Then I realized that HEALTH is more important than anything....Its the best way to look at your body, focus on developing strenght, setting REALISTIC goals, and not making a relationship with food. There are also soooo many other amazing ladies on here who have wayyyy better threads than me. In reference to the 'oh so familiar' way of thinking that the so called model body is attractive. First of all, only ~4% of the women in the world are born with the "model" body(long legs, torso, arms). The rest of us are born more in the pear or apple shape body type. To add in some more facts, pictures in magazines that portray the way a woman is "supposed" to look are REALLY airbrushed and photoshopped. I dont even want to get into what an eating disorder will do to your body. Now, this said, know that I am talking in the terms of YOUR life .... not to mention the damage that is done to your internal organs. :worried:

When you either starve or purge....your body will actually eat away at your muscle tissue and NOT fat.....since biologically (and calorie wise) fat is more important for survival. Now if you think about that...you can conclude that those things will not help you achieve ANY kind of fitness or the so called "toned" body.

Again, we are here to help! Im so glad that you are trying to do the right thing when it comes to your health and body! I am looking forward to reading your log very soon :)

Aries!!!
Lol!! =) You have finally done it! =) I am now fully convinced to do this!!! SCARED! But willing!! I will start my log tonight!! So be looking for me ;) Here goes nothing.... or,er, eVERYTHING! =)
