After many months, I am finally off prednisone. For 8 months, I took around 100mg a day for treatment of an autoimmune. Thanks to an over-priced medication called Rituxan, however, I am finally off it.
When I started prednisone, I was around 210lb ~12% bf. I considered myself in very good shape, I lifted 2-3 times a week, and jogged 10-15 miles a week. Long story short, I got really fat on prednisone. In July, I topped out at 230lb 30%bf , I could barely run a mile, and my lifts were getting lighter every week.
As I was no longer happy with myself, I took steps. I started the weaning process so that I could finally get off the prednisone, and redoubled my efforts in working out. Once I received my second round of Rituxan, I was able to stop taking prednisone. I am very grateful for this, as it is a horrible drug.
I have managed to lose 35-40 lbs, and am currently at 194lb 24% bf. Definitely bigger, in all the wrong ways, than I want to be. What I am seeking is advice on regaining the muscle, and possibly shedding the last bit of fat. After a couple of months of loosing weight, I am about to start a bulking phase, though I am leery of putting on any more fat... But I hate how weak I feel.
This is my current diet
(08:00) oatmeal
egg white & whey shake
flax seed oil (3g)
handful of berries (mixed. Frozen this time of year, or freeze dried)
Multivitamin
Calcium supplement
Glucosamine / Chondroitin
(12:00) brown rice
chicken breast
avocado (if available)
broccoli / carrots / spinach / green beans / peas / similar
(03:00) Soy Meal-Replacement powder (16g protein)
Whey Protein powder
pumpkin seeds / mixed nuts (not peanuts, unsalted) / sunflower seeds (unsalted) / similar
(06:00) fish (salmon usually) chicken or lean beef
broccoli / carrots / spinach / green beans / peas / similar
(09:00) egg white / whey shake
I try to keep myself at 30-40 g protein per meal, and have been eating around 2000 calories a day. I hve been keeping my fat intake low, but try to get some good fats from the flax, avocadoes, and fish. The chicken or beef adds a bit as well, but I should probably eat a little more. I drink over 1 gallon of water a day, do not drink coffee or tea, and have been drinking diet coke, but am quitting that particular addiction.
I am continuing to take Danazol (800mg / day) and Flonase, but have stopped other medicines.
Advice? Suggestions? Anything that can help get me back to where I was will be appreciated.
