I started cycling to work recently and am loving it so far. Its an average of 10-12 mi. a day in 20 minute splits. I bike to the gym, then to the beach where I lifeguard, and then home. The ride to the gym is slow and has very little incline so its more of a warm up and has not been impacting my lifts. The rides to the beach and back home can be brutal as my backpack has all my lifting and lifeguard gear plus a gallon of water and a protein shake.
Anyways, the only days I bike to the gym are on upper body days, not leg days.
I took a day off from cycling to work yesterday, and squatted today and set a PR. So I think I will be solid if I skip cycling the day before my squat workout.
However, I really want to at least keep cycling three days a week and my only other option is to add the day before my deadlift workout.
Do you guys think this will negatively impact my deadlift day signifcantly, its a 531 deadlift day so the weight will be relatively light compared to heavy singles and triples. I will be getting proper recovery the night before. I am not trying to hit heavy weights on the 531 day, and my reps will most likely be over 8 reps. I'm sure you all have some idea how that particular program runs.
