At my gym tonight... "The Squatters"

Ok, I don't slam on nobody... and I might not even slam on these kids, because they could have been doing a form of a squat I'm not familar with.

First off, they did the squats from a standing position, until their knees were bent slightly, and then stood back up. The entire ROM was around 6-8" if that..

these guys were probably around 160lbs-175lbs respectively... and finished up their sets with 405lbs... with the same 6" range of motion.

I'm not sure if that is some sort of squat or not. But if I did that with weight, I don't think my legs would even feel it...

To top it off... one guy removed all the weights on one side while the other was removing them slower... so basically 2 45 plates crashed to the floor flipping the bar and caused a HUGE brew haha... I of course, gave them a standing ovation.

Maybe there some new style of squating that hasn't gotten around to us yet. I have a similar guy at my gym. He loves to finish of 3-4 reps of 455, going down maybe 4-5 inches. On top of that he has someone spot him for these so they are mostly forced. The best part is people stare at him and since most people have no clue about how to lift they think this guy is real strong and he walks around like he is the biggest thing in the gym, when his legs are literally smaller then my arms. Maybe there some new style of squating that hasn't gotten around to us yet.

yeah, these guys quads were smaller than my 18.5" inch calves no joke... I could squat their way as much weight as my back could hold! :)

Ha. I was doing some stiff legged deads last week and this kid, maybe 150 pounds, was squatting 215, with the same ROM you described. I really wanted to say something, you know, to help the kid. But then I looked over and he was gone. He did like 2 sets. Like 5 crappy reps each. And to top that off, he left all the weight on the bar. What a gay pile of gay.

It is scary to watch too. I was just waiting for the guys knees to tear and then him getting crushed under the weight. I wonder if these people actually believe that they are doing something beneficial.

This drives me just insane.. I want to go over and tell the kids how to do it... but who am i to give some kids advice at the gym....

The two kids that I see are from some local sports team... they both toss on around 300 lbs and don't even come CLOSE to going parrallel... Oh well.. bottom line is they are only cheating themselves

I guess my gym is different. It is really rare to witness an idiotic scene such as this. You have guys that squat or don't squat at all. Most guys squat to or just above parallel. Most of the lighter guys squat with lighter weights, but with good form. Overall, a lot of people squat and deadlift at the gym. Its a good site.

There are a few in my gym like that too, over 6" tall and 160lbs soaking wet with oil. The first time I saw it i was squatting on the rack next to them. I went 5x5 on 405lbs, ass right to the floor. They worked up to the same weight, but were shakking so bad when they stepped out with the weight that the other guy would have to hold onto his waist to keep him still. They then did a few reps with a 4-5" ROM, racked it making all kinds of noise, then swaggered past me while trying to stare me down.
The funny thing was that even if they were doing it properly, who cares....I squat for big legs, these guys both had legs like ostriches, but it was funny either way

Yeah, these guys thought they were big shit lifting the weights... I was doing 315 on barbell rows behind them... it was funny... they were swaggering, but you could tell... they were impressed with their 15" legs.
