Anyone tried dorian yates system of 1 set to failure

strength

New member
basically what he does is pyramid down doing 2 basically warm up sets of 15-18 reps for one set then another set @ 10-12 reps.
Then with a nice pump, the last set is 6-8 to absolute failure and 2 or three forced reps at the end.

I just started this program and i am SORE. Im trying to lean out a bit now. Just got off a NICE bulking cycle. whats all yoru opinions?

I use a variation of that model, but it's really not his system, per se, but one that many people have used for a long time (the late great Mike Metzner being prominent).

It works better with a partner for instant weight/pin changes, but it is indeed really effective for me.

I tend to agree with the contention that if one can't get maximal intensity with the first set, one is doing something incorrectly.

YMMV

diamonddiceclay has a point

dorain was all juiced up......... but so was mentzer supposedly

anyway

dorain adapted his training from mentzer's Heavy Duty System

dorain says it takes about 10 years to be able to train with that much intensity

menzter said it comes after years of your body getting stronger and stronger. the stronger it is...... the less work outs you need

the key to the idea is intensity

i have used it and it works, but i like to change things up.

the reason for you being so sore is that your fatiguing the muscle....but the one set almost eliminates overtraining.

so do u think i should stick with it, im just coming off a test/winny cycle. and for many reasons, am staying clean from now on. I am going to try thisfor a few weeks. Im tellin you i have not been this sore in years

I've read interviews where he talks about using other methods aswell, such as drop sets, etc...So I don't think he always used that day in day out. For a while he was using supposedly training 4 times every 9 days, twice for upper body, twice for lower body. Now, I see he's telling everyone he did a 4 or 5 day split with a rest day. He obviously, as everyone does, shook it up a bit.

It is excellent for the natural bodybuilder.

I use a routine very much like that, only with 1-2 sets per exercise and only 3 exercise for large parts and 1-2 for small.

sysopt has the idea.

yes stick with the program......... if it works..... keep GR0WING.

the thing is this.......... most people choose to workout with volume........... and they sacrifice intensity for it.......... i did it........ you did........... we probably all did at one point.

when you have 5 sets of squats........ you tend to conserve your energy and efforts to sustain the 5 sets.

when you have 1 set........ you can snort, grunt, and blow everything you have becuase......... when you finish the set and you have given it all you have.............. your done.

the workout makes you workout with intensity.
