2 days into CKD, No Ketones in urine

I still havent gone into ketosis.

Im on day two of the CKD diet. I am following the diet exactly. I have done 1 cardio session yesterday, this morning I have still not gone into ketosis even a little bit, so i jogged 1 mile on an empty stomach, later i had my heavy lifting session followed by some cardio. Still no Ketones.

What should I do, I was imagining that i would be in ketossis within the first day.

When should ketosis kick in, and what should i do to get into it already? Is there anything i could do to speed up the process?
Do Ketostix work always?

Write down everything, and I mean everything, you ate or drank in the last two days.

well remember, if your body is efficiently using up the ketones then there will not be enough to show on the stick...As long as they dont show that you have glucose in the stream, I think you're safe as long as you feel that you are keeping a good diet and not eating a lot more protein than fat, cause remember, if you dont take in enough fat, your body WILL convert over the protein into glucose.

Here's my response to the PM you sent me:

I would suggest you wait a bit, usually ketosis takes up to 72 hours, so your position on first day ketosis is a bit off.

Your diet might also be a key factor that's lacking..

Basically wait a day or so, especially if it's your first time getting into ketosis, it's the hardest.

first day,
11:20 1 serving walnuts, Omegaburn (CLA+various omega fats)25 fat 5 protien
2:00 walnuts 20 fat 5 prot
3:30 hot dog only mustard, no bun
5:20 almonds 1 slice of cheese
6 Yohimburn df on abs
6:30 Cardio 65%MHR 35mins 400cal
730 Polish sausage 25 fat 7 protein
9 other sausage, pepers in oil fat 30 protein 10
11 polish, ham 20 fat 15 protein
12 sleep

By the way, just to point something out for you, you might be in ketosis even though you don't see ketones in the urine. It's a common misconception that people make when looking at Ketosis. There is a difference between ketoanemia and ketonuria; i.e. ketones in the blood vs. ketones in the urine. In your case, you might be in ketosis but the ketones might not show up in your urine (ketonurea) until at least 72hrs +/-.

second day,
7:30 run 1 mile on empty stomach
8 polish sausage 25fat 7protein
11 almonds 20 fat 7 protein
12:30 almonds 15 fat 5 protein
1:30 workout,chest 40mins, 20mins cardio
245 protein shake 35gs
3:55 sitting here typeing, and trying to figure out what to do

I must admit I'm no guru, but a few things I don't like the look of are; The polish sausages, there may be hidden carbs there. Just almonds for two meals in a row, and the 35g protein shake may cause insulin spike, therefore taking you out of ketosis.

Also, you would be better walking briskly for 45mins-1hr imo than running a mile which must be about 8-10 mins max.

How much water you drinking?

Im taking in about 2 gallons of water, I keep my jogging slow, keep my HR under 125.

Im not positive about my BF, got it calculated at ballys with the thing you put your hands on. I did it on 3 different occasions, got 4.3, 4.8, 5.2%. Sounds wrong to me, but there is a 3%margin of error, so i estimate it at 8%.
I had a six pack this summer but my bulking diet gave me a little fat. I am very lean, can see a 4 pack but the bottom will not show through. there are stubborn fat pockets im trying to get rid of with yohimburn and get more vascular looking in general.
Im not going into competition, but i just like to look my best all the time.

Tuc is right. Almonds are NOT your best choice for nutts. Check the sasauge for hidden carbs, such as dextrose, & corn syrup (commonly added). 35 grams of whey protien with no additional fat will probably kick you out of ketosis.

Your BMR caloric intake: 165 x12 = 1980

You're taking in: 756 calories

you're in starvation my friend; plus, the almonds are too many carbs in one sitting

Mr.X

I would suggest you revise your meal plan to increase calories, decrease carbs and increase the overal intake-vs-output.

You will have a problem w/ or w/o ketosis if you eat so little food; most likely you'll be in starvation and wont lose body fat.

My bag of walnuts says it has 3 grams of total carbs, and 3 grams of fiber, thus making them 0 carbs. My almonds say 6 grams of carbs total, 5 from fiber, thus making them 1 carb. How is that too many carbs for one sitting?

Not all bags tell you the truth....remember, a walnut can be lacking the crucial skin that creates the fiber; thus, making it more carbs.

My thought is that maybe you are eating too few calories, and perhaps burning up ketones for energy before they have a chance to show up in your urine. It generally takes me a good 72 hours to show ketones on ketostick. Make some better food choices. I have found that coral calcium really helps me with energy output, and constipation issues. Just a thought...

hmm i did not start on ckd
i started on atkins
and the first two weeks i consumed less than 20 g carbs a day
and nuts were not allowed til after induction
and a limit on sausages and bacon....nitrites are said to kick you out of ketosis
mind you i NEVER was in deep ketosis according to the ketostix
but never the less i lost weight (48 pounds) and several inches around my waist
i suggest cutting on the nuts for a while and go for salads while taking 2 tablspoons of flaxseed oil
8 polish sausages! you trying for ripley's or guiness book of records?
ham sausage once or twice a week
chicken, beef, pork, lamb, mutton, salmon, tuna, mackerel, eggs, hard cheeses
give that a try

not 8 sausages, 8:00 oclock i had a polish sausage.
Maybe i went wrong with the nuts but ill see tomorrow when i test again.

If you get kicked out of ketosis, how hard is it to get back in.

Today i took some muscle milk after my workout, 30p 10c 18fat. do you think that would of kicked me out, i used 300mg ALA before consuming this.

well 45 mins of hard training or cardio is said to do it

not sure about the muscle milk but try to keep your carbs as low as possible when starting a keto diet
check mr. x, swolecat or crumbcake's post lots of good stuff there
get a copy of atkins dietbook LOTS of info there too

If you get out of ketosis, it's usually fairly hard to get back in, but harded to keep the fat-loss going if you're in and out of ketosis. Now, the muscle milk will NOT do with real ketosis b/c it not only has the carbs you mention but also hidden carbs - if you've been having food like that, that's the main reason you're not in ketosis. If you take in more then 30g carbs per day, and more then 5-6g carbs per meal, you're more likely then not to be kicked out of ketosis.
