Why Do Some Women Think Muscle Is Unsexy?

spatterson said:
So I have to stand back and watch them poking fun, because you're too "aloof" to address it with them. That's fine...you don't owe anyone an explanantion.

During MY OWN workouts I never talk to anyone but my trainer. Even then, just to answer his questions. I wouldn't know if someone was watching me!

Here we go with the ALOOF label again. Wasnt it me that took time to help your friend with his benching...and his tricep work. And DIDNT flip out when he jumped in with me on speed bench....destroying my rest intervals.

And during MY OWN workouts at the Fitness Center...I try not to pay attention to others as well. However at the same time I am training I am spotting one person and helping another with form. So even though I am in the training mindset I look like I am there training people and I come off...apparently as Aloof.

Of course I could just be an asshole...there is always that possibility.

:lmao:

Thank God...I lucked out. Most of my women clients felt the same way about gaining muscle. But they see how I train and the amount of muscle I have gained. Now they are all over it. Always making comments on wanting to look like me. I have trained the wimpy attitudes out of them. Now some are alittle more hardcore.

Even the men are annoying. I work at a very corporate gym. So you rarely see any hardcore women in there. As far as women trainers, we have three including myself that are hardcore with the training program. So, needless to say we get little comments from the men that are not used to it and many who don't find it attractive. Just the other day I was doing my pull up routine (wide/close grip)...when I was done there were a few men watching. One made the comment how women don't do pull ups because their usually not strong enough and he was surprised to see me performing the movement with good form. Then his friend started clapping. So I challenged them to alittle competition....they backed off!;)

4BADASS - you should at least print out the "Simple Reasons Why Women Need Weight Training" top 10 reasons so she knows what it can do for women... like increase metabolism. i think it's important that she realize she has 2 options (unless she's blessed w/ super incredible genetics).. gain muscle or gain fat as she gets older.

AND WHATS WITH GIRLS THINKING EVERYBODY IS LOOKING AT THEM IN THE WIEGHT ROOM?

i felt this way, too, until i started feeling more confident about myself (thanks to lifting i might add) and it seems pretty silly to me now.

and BTW ::

this is coming from a girl who's man got her in the gym a couple years ago... he couldn't drag me out now :) the other day he told me he's so happy that he can share his hobby with me.. i said, yeh, i like that i can share MY hobby with him, too ;)

you know, if i see someone doing something i've never done and i find it interesting, or want to know more, if i have seen them around and know them, i might ask them, otherwise i will ask my husband about it. i do donkey calves with my husband and we do get some looks.

4BADASS,

I got the impression this woman was a client you were trainnig & not a girlfriend? If she just wants to be skinny & has no desire whatsoever to be even 'firm,' let alone strong and/or ripped, why is she bothering walking into a gym at all, let alone working with a trainer? Just eat a head of lettuce & half a bagel a day & voila - her dream body!

Usually women (IMX as an aerobics instructors) want to be firm & toned. Often times they can be won over to lifting with the main points that it raises BMR & 1 lb of muscle takes up less space than 1lb of fat - so you CAN & WILL get smaller (smaller thighs, waist, hips, etc.)

Since this lady doesn't even care about being 'firm' & 'toned' I would simply try to win her over with the health aspect. Osteoperosis, slowing the aging process to prevent natural atrophy, being able to carry groceries, etc.

I also definitely have been self-conscious in the weight room before. I just never let it stop me. Now it's a bit of an ego boost :D Having a male training partner really helps me feel more at ease as well.

One of the reasons that women feel as if they are being watched by practically every guy in the gym is that this is often the case.
