Ive been thinking about this for a long time.

Whey protein that we most commonly take is derived from milk.
Thus if someone gets say 100 g of protein from drinking a few cups of milk per day.....is that regular protein?....If no why not? I mean i never counted it in there....but im thinking to myself....it says protein (8) on the label.....Can we count protein from milk as a normal source of protein such as meat, tuna, eggs etc?

im sure its protein, but i dont trust it for some reason....only old school polish milk will do. who knows what they do to milk here when they pasturize it????

Zsiadle mleko...:)

Reason i havent been drinking that much milk is that i heard " it is not a good source"

If it is a good source..im looking to up my calls and protein intake..without taking protein suplements(no $ now). So 1/2 a gallon of milk/day should be good!

Whey and casein are the two major components of milk protein. The whey and casein powders come from pasteurized products too, milk is just as good a protein source as they are. I get a lot of my protein from milk, it works for me.

Milk is in the top 5 best sources of protein. Arnold's B.Bing encyclopedia has the list...it says what sources of protein are most usable by the body. Whey is #1 followed by tuna and chicken, and then I'm pretty sure it's milk. I don't have the book or I'd site it.

I mean....ive heard this alot of times....milk is not a good source for bb'ing. However after analizing it I feel its Bulshit. Farmers Cheese, Cream Cheese, Cottage Cheese all are MILK.

Damn a milk a day = 128+ grams of protein+ boatload of carbs and calls= good

Its an excellent source of protein...I think its the lactose thats a bad source of carbs. Thats why people get the low carb milk.

Also some swear that it thickens their skin - I dont think pro bb's have any dairy any time near contests.

Damn....ive been missing out.....(due to hearing stupid advice) pist off!
This will be perfect....an extra 128g of protein/day + boatload of callories.
Pluss chuging down callories and protein in form of liquid is much easier than eating.....Eating sucks!

Why is lactose a bad source of carbs.....?
I could care less abou thick skin.

lmfao :p :p

Powdered milk added to regular milk used to be a poor man's protein shake.

Skim milk has NO fat. The only bad thing with milk is that it contains 12g of lactose, a simple sugar, per cup. For every 8g of protein you get 12g of simple sugar. Also, a lot of people are lactose intolerant. Never bothered me though, when bulking I drink a half gallon of skim a day or more, when cutting I use the fat-free carb countdown milk. 12g of protein per cup, and only 3g of lactose!

What Tux said. Depends how well you can tolerate dairy, but there is way too much simple sugar to make it your main source of protien. You can always change that ratio by adding a low carb protien powder if you are not lactose intolerant. That way you can chug your protien, but you still gotta eat real food.

be careful fellas.......one time i was very poor and decided to make my own protein shakes following the advice of somthing i read in a mag.....

mixed powdered milk..with whole milk and whipping cream.....ended up shitting my pants LITERALLY!!!!

I beleive it. Actually, most adults suffer from some degree of lactose intolerance but dont consume enough dairy to realize it.

I found out I was lactose intolerant when I started to drink 1/2 gallon of choc milk ed while bulking. Never any stomach issues but the gas I was emitting could kill a small child.

I go with lactose free skim now in all my protien shakes. My ass smells no worse than usual(which isnt ssaying much).

Can you not get a supplement to help digest the lactose? Called lactolase or something.

Mick

yeah, lactase is the enzyme that breaks down lactose. Its available in pill form.

Id suggest skipping the lactose all-together. Lactose-free milk doesnt taste any differernt.

For about a week I have been using Twinlabs PM protein fuel since I got some for free. It is made up of Milk and casein protein. I have to tell you, that I love the stuff. Of course I am dieting now and everything tastes better than normal but this stuff is more filling and you stay fuller longer. Also, I add a few ice cubes and mix it in a blender and it comes out so thick that I eat it like a pudding. I add some splenda and cinnamon and it has basically no carbs and is a great alternative to your normal protein shake.

after reading about your homemade tuna in a blender shakes you were drinking, lol milk should be a good change. keep the tuna out of the milk, now that would be sick............. ;)

i get a lot of my protein from milk. always drink lots of milk when bulking, i try to drink a half gallon a day. i drink my protein powder mixed with milk, i get enough water throughout the day anyway. skim milk actually has more protein than whole milk, but it tastes like shit, i drink the whole milk anyway, cause i dont have to worry about my fat intake. ectos rock

Im not lactose intolerant.....i have no problems drinking a gallon of milk a day.
Additionally people who are afraid of a little sugar are pussys.....calories are callories :)

So now im gona add milk to my suplement of tuna and orange juice!

tuna , oj and milk,, that my friend would be a new level of nasty shit.. :flylicker

Not at the same time bro.. Mikl after post workout would be to slow absorbing....ill stick to tuna and oj or tuna and honey after workout for now!

Milk ill just chug down during the day....
Think im goign to have to invest in one of those portable car fridges that hooks up to the AC.....to keep my milk cool in the summer. Their only like 30$ but i have to check if my bottle of milk will fit.

lol i know not at same time, i just remember post a few days back of your homemade protein shake, thought you were thinking of getting more creative :p

am i wrong PJ, but i'm pretty sure milk protein (whey/casseinate) is faster absorbing than meat protein.. care to double check ? i always down a big glass of milk/protein powder PWO

I think you might be right bro...i honestly dont know. Do you know a site with absorption times?

Milk consists of both whey and casein. Whey digests very quickly (less than an hour). Casein clots in your stomach and can take up to 6 hours to digest (obviously 5g of casein will digest more quickly than 30g).

Thanks for confirming that bro....i was starting think twice..

So it is better to avoid milk post workout. ( If you want to be technical by the book to the T)

right, you have to count the carbs in milk the same way you'd count protein or fat...I personally stopped drinking milk a couple years ago

Milk is apparently not a bad post-workout shake, though I still prefer dextrose/maltodextrin+whey. Milk is 20% whey and 80% casein. Not the fastest absorbtion, but still faster than meat which is very much comparable to casein.

PolfaJelfa said:
Tuna isnt meat though bro. Its fish. Zero Fat.

Lol, no need to get technical here. The absorbtion rate of fish and meat are rather similar. Meat is meat, whether it comes from a bass, a cow or some crickets. :p

Your a cricket man too? I thought i was alone.

Crickets and worms man! The ultimate PWO shake. Just blend 'em up and they're good to go.

I have to realy try worms some day...they look pretty tasty..the big ones. Seriously....they say they are a delicasy.....i have to find a upscale exquisite restaurant that serves them....try them out once. I just hope they arent alive when you eat them like on fear factor.

Prepared well and marinated..etc...i can see them being good.

I suppose so... snails taste good, so why shouldn't worms? :)

10g protein per cup of milk
~80 percent cassein, 20 percent whey

A calorie is a calorie. Drink the damn milk and stop denying facts.

/thread

yeah its only not a good source because to get the 40g of protein the equivalent of a chicken breast you gotta drink 5 gases of milk, and this yields 60g of sugar. Thats not a very healthy thing to do.

wow. I mix my protein with water usually. We buy 2 gallons of milk and one of them usually goes bad before it's gone.

I buy 2-3 gallons a week lol. The first time my gf went grocery shopping with me, she thought I was stocking up for a hurricane or something, then I told her that's just what I drink every week. She still thinks I'm crazy, but what the hell, she loves me anyway... also I have no problems with lactose so I don't cut loose any dairy-powered gastrointestinal eruptions around her :D

I found that many who believe they are lactose intolerant are not. When people get the flu and are prescribed antibiotics the bacteria that make them ill get killed along with the bacteria that helps digest food in the intestines. I was in the supermarket a couple months back and found that they started stocking kefir in the last aisle by the butter. Kefir is a cultured milk about half as thick as yogurt. It has the bacteria in it to help digest dairy products. I bought a bottle of the cherry flavored since they were out of chocolate. Now I fart only from the sugars in the fruit juices.

u need to consider ur goals if ur bulking and dont have peoblems with lactose than it is a perfect food i dont go crazy on milk in the summer thou if u are an ecto than id be squatting and drinking 1 gallon milk a day as welll as food and bump dial tone on the added milk powder

old school bber's used to swear by milk

Paraphrasing from pumping iron, Arnold S. "I drink no milk, milk is for babies, real men drink beer"

I drink a ton of milk btw, just a good quote from The Austrian Oak

Milk is great bro.....just some of us are lactose intolerant.....which means nasty diarrea, farts that would drive all near by humans away and the cramps.......

milk is a quality protien source
but it also has lactose (many people are lactose intolerant)
it also contains protein fractions that people may be allergic too.

note- you need to drink 4 cups of milk to get 32g of protein (the amount of protein in one 70cc scoop of pure whey isolate.

milk will not have as high a content of some of the protein fractions that whey isolate, milk isolates, etc will have.

Yeah, it is the lactose. I believe that this may cause some water retention in some individuals.
