I have recomended 30g whey and 2 tbsp gatorade (dextrose not available) after weight workout. What are your thoughts especially in regards to the carb source?
I've read (somewhere!) that women don't need carbs PW as mcuh as men. Something to do with our insulin responce, etc. Not sure about the legitimacy of that, but I have never taken in carbs in my PX shake and never felt any "bad effects" from the lack of carbs PW.
But 2 tbsp of Gatorade isn't much. I can't imagine it would hurt.
Daisy,
Its actually my mom. Im home for the summer looking for a job and trying to help her reach her fitness goals. She is 47 and is really looking to loose about 10-20 pounds. She works out all the time and her nutrition seems pretty on target (although im changing it now), but she cant seem to shed the pounds.
Might be hormonal....? Is she going through menopause yet? I know my stepmom, normally VERY skinny, started having weight issues, especially lower body and tummy, when she started menopause. Maybe have some bloodwork done at her docs. Could even be thyroid-related.
Daisy,
She is actually going through menopause. Is there any way to combat weight gain during this period. I'm not really comfortable sitting down and talking with her about her horomones, so any help would be appreciated.
I'd direct her to her Doc. Menopause is a tough time....the weight gain has to be tough emotionally too.
Maybe do a quick, basic search on the internet about menopause and weight gain....to find the basic reasons WHY it happens...even show her the websites. Then she can take the info to her doc.
Maybe she can get some HRT (Test Gel, lol) to help maintain muscle. But you can't steal it from her.
