ever since i moved to germany i have been looking for a decent gym, the one in my town has nothing but pretty boy body builder want to be's in it. i still train West side and get all those weird looks when i use bands , chains or boards. but how do i go heavy in the squat rack with a bunch of guys who think the rack is for curls only??

Just get in the rack and squat. Dont worry about the other guys. You dont need a spotter, IMO, if you are squatting in the rack. Thats what the rack is made for.
 
the rack is one of those sissy racks with the holes every 4 inches and the bottom is way too narrow for my stance. beleive me i have been doing box squats with no spot and if i fail i just sit down and ask for help then who cares how they get if off me then. i just don't want to be limited to box squats.
 
guess it wouldn't hurt to do my squats a little more narrow and stand inside. i got really comfortable though with my wide stance outside of the rack.
 
my feet are outside of my rack, if you can use more weight that way , do it that way instead.
my rack is so small , that i usually do box squats on an incline bench . My rack is less than 18 " long ( with the huge hooks jutting out)
