Hey guys,

New to the forum and relatively new to bodybuilding-

Im currently starting on Bill Starr's 5x5 advance workout, as oppose to my 12rep 3 set workout scheme. I feel great doing this kind of workout, but i also need to lose quite a bit of fat I feel.

Will I find myself over training if i did cardio and abs in between my mon/wed/fri workouts?

Should I just leave cardio up to my job? (Work as a furniture remover for 10-12 hrs a day)

My profile picture is my current size and progress... would you have any other workouts/plans you would recommend? (Down from 115kg to 95 now.)

Thanks for reading, appreciate any comments.

Do the 5x5!

Great routine easy to progress and follow.

First, cardio would be fine tuesdays and thursdays.

Second, get your diet dialed in SERIOUSLY or dont waste your time.

Third, write down some goals for yourself. What you trying to achieve? Focus your work towards those goals.

Lastly, Take your time, dont get overly anxious thinking training like a freak for two months will suddenly turn you into a machoman. This will only leave you burnt out and out of the gym in disgust. Take your time, set reasonable goals, eat healthy food, drink lots of water, and become as knowledgeable as you can on the workouts you are performing to insure you stay injury free on your journey.

Goodluck broly.

the type of work you do is endurance, not cardio, cardio is elevated heart rate with oxygen.. although you elevate doing endurance "movement" you are actually burning more fat over the day keeping your htrate down but continue to move..

So, no I don't think you are over training either..

The body adjusts and strengthens itself every time a heavier weight is used or shorter rest time is taken.

Having firsthand witnessed powerlifters get retardedly strong AND really big over time using literally the same workout since day 1 it's obvious that the body adapts to the load placed upon it.

Generally, variations in weight used, reps used and time taken between sets for rest is enough to illicit changes.

Constantly bouncing from routine to routine is not required for getting stronger or building bigger muscles except in the most advanced athletes.

My best advice? Build up to bench pressing 315 or more for 5+ reps, full squatting 405 or more for 5+ reps, standing barbell pressing 205+ for 5+ reps, ultra strict db rowing 100+ dumbell for 5+ reps, deadlifting 450+ for 5+ reps and you will likely be more muscular than 99% of the guys in the gym.

If you're still new to bodybuilding, why start on the advanced workout (assuming you mean the periodized version; 5x5 for a number of weeks then deload and 3x3 intensity)? I made great gains on the basic 5x5 at Stronglifts for a long time. When that got to be too much (i.e,. I wasn't able to add weight to the bar each workout), I moved to Bill Star's intermediate (still linear progression, but you only up the weights on Friday; also, you ramp to a top set of 5 instead of doing straight sets). When that stopped working I did like a 2 week deload and started back up again for more gains. If I misread your post, I apologize, but you can progress faster on a non-periodized program when you're new.

I didn't do cardio originally since I was trying to bulk, but overshot my calories and put on a bit more of a belly than I cared for. Rather than hitting cardio on my off days, I through 20 - 30 minutes in after my weight session and never ran into overtraining problems. Granted, I wasn't doing anything super intense like HIT, but nevertheless I through in my cardio and it didn't cause any problems.
