Green vegtables = too much sugar ?!?!?

junk

New member
Just logged to nutritiondata.com searching for my favorite
veggies. Since I'm about to end the PB diet, I am eventually
moving to more carbs a day and a bit more cals.

It seems all the veggies contain sugars ?!?!
I'm talking about just 100g serving of veggies, which isn't
much weight at all

Broccoli
Cals: 34
Sugars: 2

Cucumber
Cals: 12
Sugars: 1
(One medium cucumber is over 200grams)

Cauliflower
Cals: 25
Sugars: 2

Tomato
Cals: 23
Sugars: 4 (??)

Eating 500g of veggies a day could easily bring additional over 100 cals a day and about 10g or more of sugar ??

you're stressing out way too much
that's not much at all

10g of sugar a day from vegetables (500g) isn't much in my opinion and the positive effects of all the vegetables (phytochemicals, nutrients, vitamins, fiber etc) totally negate the measly 10g of sugar which your body will probably burn just by spending an hour on the computer anyway, hey i have a thought, if you are so anal about 10 measley grams of sugar, why don't you go for a run instead of using the computer :p

Just kidding around junk, don't take it to heart ;)

Thanks.. But Yes. I am a very precise and analytical person,
and that proved quite beneficial for me (most of the time).

All these 'little' things add up to cals, carbs and sugars.

500g of vegetables (which isn't much at all) can easily take you
to 10g of sugar and over 100 cals.
Add this 7 splendas a day I drink with tea or coffee and that's
another 21 cals (7x3).
Now add the cals from the teas, it's about 20 cals a day.

So I've reached about 150 cals a day from almost nothing.
That's not 'nothing'. People take ECA, Green Tea Extract and
other thermos that barely raise BMR by 2-3%,
which for some people that's about 150 cals. My point is IT MATTERS. It adds up:

See: 150cals x 7 days a week = 1050 cals taken over the
period of a week.. People take for granted many 'hidden' calories,
I don't.

A few grams of suger per serving is fine, consider the fiber and digestion time - it wont cause any problems.

well i'd personally eat the veggies than the splenda

yeah 150 calories might add up sure but then burn it off doing some activity, walking up a flight of stairs or something...

the point im trying to get accross is that veggies are very good for you and you need them in your diet imo

personally i think some of the low carb attitude has corrupted alot of people, you're on elite fitness implying you do some sort of fitness training or sport right? well you should then eat for performance and health and fitness

you need to weigh the cals versus the fiber
some veggies actually take more cals to digest than they offer
and the health benes from eating a varied and decent amount of veggies vastly outweigh the measily cals you get

there you have the opinion of two of the most respected voices on this board ( mr X and BFA) and my two cents worth

besides you afraid all those veggies gonna turn you into a rabbit or something?

geezus..I thought I was bad....I have 20-30g. of carbs/sugar in sugarless gum daily...lol

Seems you are a pedant guy very much like me lol.
Those sugerless Orbits really adds up calories, make unbelievable
farts and are addicting, that's why I don't touch gums when
on diet (I can usualy finish the whole pack within 20min)
