girls that dont train legs....

Not a problem, but had I posted I would pretty much have agreed with Wilson6

Great minds . . .

Have you ever though about entering a pl or and ol meet?

That is a serious question.

I think that regardless the exercises.... squats, leg press... its necessary to train legs, depending on goals the intensity will vary. Once I was talking with some girls on my gym, and they thought that I was born with nice big legs and that if I had them that way was because of that... they didn't believe that formerly I was so skinny with hardly any shape until they saw my before pics. I think that is it a matter of the perceptions and knowledge they have about weight training...

I consider myself a mesomorph & heavy leg training has changed the shape of my legs, but not made them much larger.

Yeah, it's POSSIBLE to get "bigger", but NOT likely.

So ladies may as well TRY to work hard. Anyone who spends any amout of time with the 'general population' (i.e. not serious, competitive athletes) knows that most people don't put forth a lot of effort in their workouts anyway - making it even MORE UNLIKELY that they will get big.

PLUS - if muscles do get big, stop what you're doing & they'll atrophy!!! It's not like your inflated for life. (if only!)

As far as the original post - this only annoys me when women come to me & ask how to get a tighter, firmer, higher behind, but then don't want my advice (HEAVY squats & DL's!) If you're not even going to TRY...!

I just read the recent posts to this thread and I am going to clarify a couple of things.

FB, I am at ~15% BF and my diet is extremely clean. That plays a big part in staying lean for me, BUT as for the comments
DIET is the only way to keep your legs in shape....you do not get thick and bulky from the strength training...that is all in your mind...your diet is what determines the look of your legs!!!
I feel you are somewhat out of line. I happen to be one of those "lucky" people that can become "thick" with strength training, it is not all in my mind and genetics is what determined how my legs look to begin with.

I respect most of your posts on here and admire how far you have gone with your competitions but until you have walked in another's shoes with regards to strength training and BB, please dont assume that their body will respond the same that yours does.

W6, I also have the utmost respect for you as well however where did the comments about women that get big legs already had big fat legs to begin with come from?

Finally, I actually dont even know what "body type" I am. I do know that from my experience (about 11 years) that my legs can get massive compared to the rest of my body and heavy squats have increased the thickness in my waist. If I would have known years ago that my waist would thicken up, I would not have lifted quite as heavy.

The End.:D

"however where did the comments about women that get big legs already had big fat legs to begin with come from?"

I'm generally talking about most of the women that come in for training who haven't lifted before. The fact is, most of the time their legs are big and fat (thigh skinfold well into the 30's), or there are a few that lift who also have high thigh skinfold measures and would rather not work legs than diet. If you can get you mid-thigh skinfold down to 12 mm, then take a look in the mirror and see if you still think you have big legs. If you AND others do, then you're the genetic freak.

Having said that, I do see women, one comes to mind in particular who recently joined the gym that has legs way bigger than her upper body and she is well muscled, lean and powerlifts. Another case in point is the women BB that was discussed in the "is this realistic" thread. So there are some women that develop bigs legs with strength training, juiced or not. Why genetically women can hypertrophy their legs to a greater extent than their upper body is a mystery. Doesn't seem to be this way in men, although sometimes it isn't genetic in guys since alot of them just like to train upper body because legs are too demanding, plus their easy to hide their skinny legs in baggies.

I also have natrually muscular legs from years of playing soccer and competing in track and field. When i started lifting my legs grew much quicker then the rest of me and started to look out of proportion so I had to use less weight and adjusted my rep range. This has helped me to maintain shapley muscular legs that are proprtionate to the rest of my body. the problem is that i am stuck in the same routine b/c i am scared to change it up because I do not want to gain any more muscle in my legs.

So I was wondering can those of you who are mesomorphs like me please post your leg routines so i can get some ideas. thank you so much I appreciate it.

Also I do not have much fat on my legs but they measure 22 inches around at the largest part of my thigh- is this consideerd big or average compared to like bodybuilders and fitness competitors measurements. Sorry so long. Thanks again.

no pics, but skinfold measurements...

I just checked my bodyfat percentages from May--15.3 percent. A 7-point skinfold test averaged 17 mm. (Measured four times: 16, 16, 17, 19.)

At their widest point, my thighs were 22 inches around.

So I had "fat" legs, even at 15.3 percent bodyfat? I don't think so.

As I've said before, I don't have a digital camera or a scanner, or else I'd be happy to post pics. I have no reason to lie.
