Dear Diary... Love, CB

Did legs tonight. Sleeeeeeeepy. Ate a bigger dinner per my trainer and I am fullsies.... I hope the Results Fairy comes again tonight. Should I leave her some cookies? I don't have any... She'd probably prefer some creatine anyway.

I'm a little superstitious. I may actually leave an extra shake on the counter.... ;)

Don't leave her anything...so maybe she'll come to my house instead...better yet leave her some creatine and directions to my house and we can both get a visit!! ;)

Great job cuteness!! Hope you wake up and find another ab!!

-Lil Wayne, "Mirror"

What a great warmup song. So, Jennifer, the results fairy did come last night, and she stole my delts... Let me know if you find them. Lol :p

It's ok... I'm gonna keep going with this cut for now and reassess when I'm a little leaner. These things have a way of evening out and I'm pretty sure I've got enough time to do a little refining if I need to. In fact, once my legs come down a little I might find I have more symmetry without any more upper body mass.

Lol...the obsessing! Thank God I have my trainer to make these calls for me. I was actually talking to an old client (I used to train full time but do other stuff now) last night who was saying that even though he has competed as a bodybuilder it helps him to have me still do his nutrition. It's a little silly because the guy has plenty of knowledge and expertise and there is no magic. I don't have some weird formula or special diet, it's just that turning the control of these decisions over is really important for some people.

I obsess. About my body. About food. About exercise. Someone needs to steer the friggin' ship or I'm all over the place. Do I cry a silent tear every month when Paypal bills me for my trainer's services? Sure. But I save what I spend in stupid endeavors not undertaken.
Me: "I'm losing my delts."
Him: "Shut up and keep doing your plan."
M: "My delts are back!"
Him: "Shocking." (heavy on sarcasm)

We tend to not only obsess but we panic when we "find something". Whether it's a trainer, a training partner, or a good friend with a good eye and no emotional investment, this neutral second opinion is priceless. It's also important because it keeps us from being self-absorbed feedback gluttons IRL. Maybe gramma doesn't wanna feel your bis again today. Maybe your colleagues just want you to do your day job. Maybe the other people waiting in the bathroom line at Starbucks don't want to squeeze their knees together while you take more mirror time.

Mirror time. The mirror can be an important tool, but a very biased one. So you don't have a training partner? (By the way, b.s. if you're posting regularly on this forum and still think that) Can't afford a trainer? Can't afford your own wireless internet (sorry neighbors)? Take pics every 2 weeks and keep them. Compare them and your progression. It's not perfect, but it's a lot easier. If you need a second opinion I'm happy to look (but ladies PLEASE exercise good judgement about sending pics to anyone online).

Why try to cut back on your obsessing?
- mirror time at the gym is time lost not doing WORK.
- mirror time when you're with others is unattractive, sure, but it also means you're missing out on OTHER people, and they can be pretty cool too. Don't rob yourself of a real life. You can have both.
- time spent obsessing about your nutrition (deciding what to have, not eating clean in actuality) pisses your waiter and your loved ones off... Oh, and it doesn't help you meet your goals. A stressed dieter is a fat dieter.

I'm sure you can all think of other reasons (all none to one of you that have read to this point -- lol!), but these are just a few in my limited personal experience with watching myself and others.

Having a trainer or advisor (e.g. someone like Radar) means humbling yourself. It means adopting the "Beginner's Mind" no matter where we are. And then adopting it again when we get too big for our shirtsleeves.

I played sports in school, and I was ok, but I was a little what they call "uncoachable". I always thought I knew better. Too smart for my own good? Too smart for results. I finally learned that listening to OTHER people is helpful (sometimes). Choose your advisors carefully and wisely. Get a second opinion if necessary (any advice worth taking can tolerate a second opinion). Then stop wasting time looking at it and dive in.

xo, C

PS I'm getting friggin thumb-thritis from my touch screen!

I'm also an obsessive obsessor. :) not so much with the mirror-- I still don't admire myself enough to be constantly looking in the mirror, but the diet? Good god I worry about that every second!!! Is this right?? Is this enough? Should I cut this and add that? It is mind numbing!!!! And maybe why I can't get rid of this headache either. Hmmm. But I'll take what you said about the stressed dieter being a fat dieter to heart. Just worrying so much is just gonna raise my cortisol level and keep me fat. I need to relax and just trust the process. :)

Haven't seen your delts but I left a message with the results fairy to give them to me if she finds them and then I'll make sure to return them to you promptly (come on..I'll give em back eventually)!

Loved your post as always. You're a talented lil thing. ;)

Good morning, ladies' room!

This is going to be way briefer than usual... My apologies to the hardy (and questionably insane) few who usually read my diatribe.

Mostly just a confession that my food got a little messy last night. A little. And a commitment to do better (squeaky clean) today... Travel or not.

Short but sweet! ha , must mention Cutey your def is looking awesome in you avatar.......

Thanks guys!

I did (kill that shit)

Double session cardio, lifted back... At another little corporate gym where they don't know what to make of this grunting, sweating ball of blonde fury.

Kept the diet SUPER clean. Feeling good. Gonna hydrate, supp up and rack out for what I know will be an excellent night of sleep.

It's so nice and quiet in the 'burbs. Ahhhhhhhh

xo,
C

PS OWL, I'm still waiting on that thread of yours ;)

PPS Donna, thanks for the compliment. I've gotta keep pumpin' up to keep up with the gunshow around here!

Looking good girl! Way to stay on track today! :)

A mere 3 minutes after telling someone else to "think less and do more", I catch the overly-cerebral "Cutiebolic" obsessing over her heart rate during cardio.

She checks it. Too low.

Again. Still too low.

"maybe if I..."

It's too fucking low, girl... Do some damn cardio or hit the shower but quit wasting my time!

if you just let yourself get all out of shape it's a whole lot easier to get that heart rate up.

Just sayin'

As you would say, "troo"

U know what, P? You're right... What's the point of all of this?

I give up. I'm gonna go smoke some pot with my friends Ben and Jerry and stuff down some Fritos watching Gilmore Girls reruns.

Maybe you'll even find some powdered cheese in my hair in the morning when I've passed out the couch in a food coma.

I couldn't do it. I just did more abs before bedtime for thinking about it.

I'm just too weak for the CnC lifestyle, P. :(

Hahaha I'm creased at this lmfao full blow
Munchies the lot lol!

cutie you're my doll ,anytime you feel the lack of training or something on your mind,pm me, i promise you will feel a whole lot better.

I couldn't give up working out. But Fritos? Oh I could eat a whole bag and not bat an eyelash. Sure, I'd feel like shit afterwards. But oh how I could eat me some Fritos. F-you, diet!!! :) lol I guess I should get back to ballin so hard. Hahaha!

Lol! It's amazing how something that smells like gross feet can be so addictive!

Just for today I think I can live with my ballin' clean diet (and possibly even prefer it!)... I seriously don't touch the stuff -- at this point I think I'd get illz :p

I'm on the elliptical, getting more kind of mediocre cardio this morning but it's not really an accident because I am SO late getting started that higher intensity stuff would really be counter-productive.

Dieters are, for the most part, IMHO, an even split. There are those that would love the couch-Frito diet ("Dr. MiPlank's Nacho Revolution" anyone?) and then there is the equally potentially catastrophic "one-upper" (these two can coexist in the same individual but I think that topic lies beyond the scope of this discussion today).

The "One-Upper" (which I admit I am often guilty of personifying) is not the annoying "one-upper" you run into at cocktail parties and reunions. I am appropriating this term to describe the person who instinctively ascribes to the credo that "more is better".

Alas, this is not always the case and is, in fact, in direct opposition to the tried and true water-dripping-on-a-rock method, which has been previously discussed.

I will elaborate on this later, but with more time and a real keyboard I will explain how it relates to my lackluster cardio this morning. Hopefully it's not just a rationalization!

Love you guys. You seriously keep me driving for improvement, and laughing the whole way. So much gratitude.

xo, C

This is all so philosophical that it killz me.....just cant stay away!

LOL killin me softly....remember what song that was from?

Maybe make that my new handle....LOL

Hey Ladies!

Sorry for the half ass posts lately -- my only cardio equipment requires my hands so it's hard to keep the heart rate in zone and punch these little buttons. Plus I have my hands full IRL right now so not a lot of continuous downtime for thoughtful posting. Nonetheless, I'm always here for a chica in need. Don't forget it.

You just might have to nag me a little :)

I don't have much to say other than that I need to put my money where my mouth is and get my bodyfat tested. There is no sense in obsessing over Results/nonresults without this barometer for my goal progression.

So, I'm putting that on the shelf this morning.

What am I "taking off the shelf"? What am I choosing to think about?

Well, one of my go to's is a little trick that annoys the crap out of friends and family (lol). I call it "doing my gratitudes"... You can call it what you want. Basically, it just involves listing 10 things I'm grateful for. If I'm in a bad mood that requires some remodeling I may need to set some sort of boundary and then don't let myself cross it until I've accomplished the list. For example, I'm not getting off this damn elliptical until I can list 10 things I'm truly grateful for (this will not be hard). These things can be big, like "family", medium, or tiny like "good bicep pumps" (I call this tiny meaning specific... I know you girls have big guns). Sometimes it can be gratitude for what is not happening, "I am grateful it's not raining."

The one guideline I will give is don't fudge it... If you're not really feeling grateful for Aunt Marge and her poundcake-pushing, don't put it on your list. It will only dilute it!

Here's mine this morning:
1. An abundance of clean laundry (not having to share 3 machines with 100 people)
2. Heat
3. Fresh air (really)
4. Being able to see the stars this morning
5. Good health
6. My parents... We have had our shakes but they're being very kind and trying not to step on my fragile ego about living with them for a spell
7. My EF Chicas
8. Peace in my life. Even my diet is non-chaotic. It just feels good.
9. Old friends
10. New friends

Ok, ladies... I know, I'm a cornball... Get used to it.

I have an interview today. I'm not really sure I want this job but I'm trying to go on all the interviews I get offered and keep an open mind. I hate "acting" though... It's not me!!

Anyway, maybe I'll get to check in from "the front". Lol

I forgot to include this pic from last night of a nasty bicep pump... Haha

This is a super close-up. My meatballs are so Chef Boyardee!

Nice arm pump chika and I happen to really like and appreciate your gratitudes.

Hey Cutey I love your outlook on life your always so positive too , Also I think your list of gratitudes is great too lol I never thought of doing anything like that I can see why It would be so beneficial that me be because you have us guys on there lol. And that some arm pump you got going on there chic! looking awesome.

Hey cutie you wanna discuss sugazombies diet etc in here or somewhere else?

Hey ladies!

Today was ccccrazy busy

Just wanted to post up and let you know I didn't slack, though... Crushed legs, cardio and hit my diet dead on.

I can't fully weigh in on this because I haven't heard them all... Let me do some research and get back to you, D!

Thread update:
Did shoulders tonight and felt shredded... If only I could get my lower body to come along for the ride before my muscles take a vacation!

It's just gonna continue to be a slow cut... Which is annoying because I like them results. Where is that Results Fairy anyway? Tell her I've been a good girl, would ya?

Hey Ladies Room!

I had a potential setback this morning (showed up at my gym and it was closed -- WTF?) but while I'm getting a late start on cardio on a friend's treadmill, it didn't derail this train. Yay.

So, as usual, I have some thoughts this morning. This time, about EF. What a diverse site... There is a lot here and I think it can be challenging (especially as a female) to figure out how to really use it as a tool toward reaching one's fitness goals. I thought I'd pontificate a little bit on why I'm here and why I keep coming back.

For me, lists help organize my brain so here we go, but this is not meant to be sequential:

1. Being able to record something every day and knowing my friends here are checking in keeps me accountable and gets me through tough moments.

2. When I second guess my plans/goals because many people don't understand them, I know I'll find support here.

3. I know I can get honest feedback.

4. When I do get results I know people here understand how hard to worked to get there!

5. I am ALWAYS learning something new.

6. I am so inspired by the commitment of the other ladies.

7. Seeing you guys work hard reminds me that somewhere out there my competition is working hard too.

8. Having other women around who aren't trying to one-up eachother, who are supportive and above all fun makes this whole journey fun.

9. Writing to you guys makes my cardio fly by (there are benefits to the easily distractible brain!)

10. You guys challenge me and call me on my b.s. If I'm writing it I'd better be doing it, owning it. No hypocrisy here.

11. Helping you guys meet your goals is a whole different kind of fun. When you get results, I get results!

12. So that when I'm watching Fox News break the story on "New Superfoods" I know someone else somewhere is rolling his/her eyes too!

List TBC

xo have a great day everyone!!!!

You've been such a huge support to me. xo

More like a pain in the ass lmao !! APP suggested this p90x I just checked it out the ab ripper looks a killa!!

Did my cardio this "morning" (I say that because I slept way in today and it wasn't quite morning at all) and lifted back tonight. Had a nice strong lift and was very happy to have remembered my wrist straps... actually, just one but that's all I needed. No more achy wrists!

just the work sets:
lat pulldown
4x12 at 115

one arm db rows
3x10 at 60

underhand bb rows
3x8 at 115

underhand pulldowns
3x15 at 90

stiff arms
7x15 at 50

I know for some of you strong peops this isn't a lot of weight but it was a good day for me :) Back used to be my weak point too so I'm glad to have brought it along.

Will write a more thoughtful post tomorrow but just wanted to get something down. You know, the whole accountability thing ;)

xo

I think your numbers are great and it looks like a great workout! Sleep well! :)

Thanks, Cali!

I am not really going for those #'s but I need that reminder constantly! Every powerlifter secretly wants to look like a bodybuilder and every bodybuilder wants to lift like a powerlifter. Gotta keep the "I am strong like bull" ego in check when ballin' at the gym or I strain my wee little genetic capabilities ;) There have been many ego-induced injuries! Most recently some separated ribs that put me on almost entirely lower body for 4 months of 2010. I think I've learned that lesson for now. What's the saying, "discretion is the better part of valor"?

I am on the elliptical again. It's kind of a bummer. I miss the hard sweat of the step mill but am working with a tweaky hamstring and I think a real run would put me in a bad position for legs tomorrow. Had to think hard on this one for a while to make sure I wasn't losing ground to my innate inertia. I usually bounce these decisions off others... It just helps to have a jury for the cardio trial.

In the end I decided to do the elliptical, easier on the joints, jack up the time a little and later will make sure to go hard and heavy on abs to make up for lost GH stim!

And you thought you overthink stuff!

Have "homework" to do today for a potential job. Gonna keep plowing through laundry and getting myself organized before the niece and nephew spontaneously appear (they could be dumped on me at any moment although I try to Heisman that whenever possible).

CB bodybuilding concept of the day?

Trust

You are putting your workouts in. Your nutrition is on point. And you are waiting for results. Every morning you wake up and check your body... What has magically occurred while you were sleeping?

Sometimes results come this way, but the saying "a watched pot never boils" seems especially apropos here. It's not fair to your body to apply that kind of scrutiny. Give it a chance!

If you have researched your plan well enough and you feel well informed then you probably just need the tincture of time. If you're still unsure, find a mentor or coach whose advice you trust. This person doesn't have to be a trainer. Hell, they don't even have to be a mod... Just find someone who has what you want and ask them to point you in the right direction.

Then give the bread time to bake! If you keep pulling the damn loaf out of the oven it's gonna fall flat or you'll drop it on the kitchen floor. Give the damn thing a chance. Sick of being doughy? Set the timer and get cookin'!

I'm not saying don't check in every now and again to monitor your progress, but these are what I think of as 20,000 ft decisions. You don't make them in the morning pinching what seems like new flab or crying crocodile tears onto the dial of your scale. You are tactical. You are deliberate. You respond not react. You are patient. You trust in the process.

Do you know how the freaking dough becomes bread? I could speculate (ok, it doesn't take that much thought) but I don't have to understand it entirely. I leave that to chemists and pastry chefs. You don't have to understand why your body does everything it does, you just have to learn how to coach it to do what you want it to do. And then give it a chance to deliver.

Peace, chickies!

You trust in the process.

where have I heard this? lol

I can't... Ever since the Stero thread I haven't been able to show my face.

After being so pwnt by PD, I can hardly bear my shame.

It's a wonder I can get out of bed.

Don't worry...if you're texting Mitch, you're in the club. He's got your cnc back.

Awesome thread! I love your motivational words. Are you training for a competition? Keep up the hard work and keep the inspiration coming!

Heyyyyy Ladeeeeezzz

I am BACK on the elliptical and this is definitely the last day for this crap. I am so bored!

Had planned to go for a run but it is downright frigid and my good cold weather gear is still hanging dry.

Back in the day, prior to this show prep, I probably would have pushed through and done the run, but I need my knees for legs tonight!

That being said I've gotta figure something out for cardio and maybe now with the time off from work it's a good time to experiment a little.

A lot of people ask me why I do my cardio fasted and in the morning. It's an archaic practice and has definitely been shown not the most effective strategy for the kind of progress I want to make, so why do I do it?

Initially it just worked best for my schedule... Morning cardio was better than no cardio, so it was the lesser of two evils.

Up to now, though, it's been an intentional hold-back. I am probably hovering in the 12-15% bodyfat range and didn't want to risk the muscle loss for the potential fat burn. I think, though it might be time to kick it up a notch and don't want to be more specific until I discuss it with my "advisory panel" ;)

I am going to be experimenting with all of this, though. I guess I just wanted to put it out there that while fasted morning cardio is useful in some situations, it would not be my "treatment of choice" for most dieters.

Anywhooooooo

I hate this stupid elliptical but I'm proud of myself for taking care of my joints.

Goals for today:
Keep food especially tight (just do the damn plan as written and don't muck around with it without permission from my trainer)
Crush legs
Discuss cardio options with "team"
Get some other work done
Drink enuf water and buy the supps I ran out of!

Shout out to my girls!!!!! Pump it!

xo

Good day Cutey!! I only ever tried fasting cardio once and I didn't realise how much harder it would be on my body with the lack of food I expected some lag but good lord I though I was going to faint on the treadmill lol,

Donna

Why are you so smart and always say the right thing?!?! :) I'm an over thinker and don't trust the process too often, always second guessing. I must listen to and heed your wisdom!!

Two questions though: how do u write while doing cardio? I'm afraid I'd fall off the damn thing if I tried!! Second question: on back day (which looked like a great day, btw) you mentioned "stiff arms". What is that? I'm always lookin to add new stuff to my back day just for shits and giggles. :)

hey fc! thanks for your kind words!

to answer your questions: 1. i can only do it on some machines -- that's why sometimes i don't post in the morning! it's a great distraction, though ;) 2. stiff arm pull downs. there is a ton on youtube and this one isn't anything special but will give you the basic idea (not me, by the way!) thanks again for checking in! xo, cb
