Competitor Question

I did my first figure competition about 3 months ago. I am now training for my "off season" and plan to do a few shows this upcoming year. It seems all women competitors (mainly fitness or figure) have broad shoulders and no hips at all! I have the shoulders, but I have hips or thighs..whatever. How do I train to get rid of them?? I eat a good off season diet and still have good workouts, but what do I need to do to loose the hip/thigh area? And keep it off! You can always tell women competitors by there body types...I want to still look like a competitor in the off season! :) Any tips??

Well, without looking at pictures of you, my question would be if the wider hips are your bone structure or if you still have fat that you need to lose in that area. Of course you cannot do anything about structure. I had a female client who is small in size, but her hips were wide. She asked me if her hips were going to look like mines on stage as I have no hips (even when pregnant, my hips stayed small) and I was honest and told her no. She was lean already and no matter what you do, you cannot change your bone structure.

Some of it is creating the illusion too (depending on bodytype)....keep working on your shoulders and bringing up your lats as well, which in turn makes your hips look smaller. I'd stay away from too many direct oblique exercises as they tend to "thicken" the waist. And then focus on conditioning. What I've realized in my few years of the sport is that it really does take years of hard work and dedication. Island Girl is an inspiration because she is an example of years of living the lifestyle, hard work and consistency. I think that, above anything else, is what will give us the ability to maintain that almost stage look over time. :)

Some pics of the hips and thighs would indeed be helpful, even if you only wanted to share them via PM. I don't think it's unusual for female figure competitors to store enough bf in their lower body in the off season to look pretty soft from the waist down. I do not think it's just you.

As for solutions, what's our post-contest diet? Do you pig out? Were you running anti-e's during contest prep? Do you drop all or most cardio? Do you feel you ever achieve a sufficiently lean shape for shows?

what do you eat off season? what is your workout like as well?

Things are okay. Still struggling with the post competition weight gain. I went to dr. to rule out any abnormalities, my thyroid and hormones all were okay!! So this stupid weight gain that wont leave is frustrating me. I took about 2 weeks off from cardio...just started adding cardio today. Going to be pretty strict with diet for a while and hope for the best. The show was over 3 months ago..so at this point I dont know why my body is being so stubborn. Any ideas on how to help the weight loss process? Im still 10 pounds over what I was before training for the show.... I gained a little over 20 pounds since the show.. Will my added cardio and eating clean take it off?
