I need a sure fire calf routine. I usually do a combination of standing and seated calf raises, totally about 9-12 sets 1x a week on leg day. Does anyone have any advice to give here? I've tried rep ranges all the way from 6-8 up to 20-25. They're so disproportional

Work them twice a week. I do them whenever I have time... Sometimes three times a week.

Stretch the absolute piss out out of them between sets and don't be afraid to try alternative methods like jogging and jumping rope.

I've known people who would not train calves on legs day for some reason. I'm a twice a week guy, and I like to superset feet together for 15, toes pointing in for 15, toes pointing out for 15, feet apart shoulder width for fifteen, then press up with both feet and take the negative 6 times for each foot, shake out the calves for 30 seconds, then do the negatives again. That's 1 set. I'll do 3 sets sitting or standing.

If training in the weight room has not been working for you, you might need to try alternative methods as someone else suggested. A friend of mine from military school had similar issues and changed his routine completely. He would do seated and standing calve raises in the gym but also include a lot of hill running, staircase-running, as well as mountain biking.

Running stairs will hammer ur calves. I'd say try and find a set of stairs that let's u stay under 30 sec sprints.

I used to be a runner and my calves got pretty big from that. I work them 3 + times a week but never on leg day because working calves can actually work your hamstrings.

I have huge calves now haha. I suggest stretching them, running, and calves are like abs. You could really work them every other day, maybe even like 4 -5 times a week. Just not on leg day

I always do calves on leg day...I usually do some sets on leg press even where I point my toes at the top...I may break an ankle one day but so far so good

I alternate the hell out of foot positioning on my raises and go as far up as I can and hold it. I HAVE to stretch between sets if I want to keep going or I can't move.
and I do calves if Im like say...waiting to get into a station at the gym any other day for the heck of it...seems like the seated and standing press are always open

Had the same problem. Doing calves twice a week def helped. Try going as slow as possible. feel the burn. I used to just do it quick but when I started going slow, that's when I started seeing some gains.
