I ordered a double denim radicle cut open back shirt from inzer on Monday. they said that it would take 4-5 weeks to get it right? Well, today is Thursday and i just got it in less than a week. Great! The problem is its really really tight. i gave them measurements 1/2 inch larger than actual. I have never worn a denim before and was wondering if this is normal and what kind of weight am i going to need to get down to my chest. I bench in the low 300's raw and want to know if i should have gone with just a single ply or what. Everyone told me to just get the two ply though. Any suggestions would be great . Thanks

Work that shirt!

Hey Grimmer,

I don't think you made a mistake with the shirt but you may have a shirt that is a little too tight for you at the moment (lockout strength vs. shirt tightness). A little work in the shirt will help the tightness some. You can also become more comfortable with the tightness of the shirt (a glutton for punishment). Try wetting the seams of the shirt before use. A good way to break in a new shirt is to bench off of 2-5 boards to acclimate. Pulling the shirt up or down at the neck can also affect the tightness and groove of the shirt. You may try having the chest "let out" about 1/4" to 1/2". Alterations can be tricky though. Make sure you send it to someone who knows what they're doing. I highly recommend that you have Inzer do the alterations if you decide to go this route.

If you are unable to get a weight to your chest that you can't lockout then you are just going to have to get stronger before the shirt will be of any use to you.

There are others on this board more experienced with bench shirts than I. I'm sure that they will offer additional ideas and some may be contrary to the ideas posted above. Good luck!

Grimmer you actually ordered a denim and you got it larger then your actual measurements? Or did you write that wrong? Either way 1/2 inch is much. Just close the back lightly and pull the neck as high as it will go to start with. Put your belt on to hold it in place. That will make it easier to get weight down. But if you have trouble in it, form may be something you need to change. You are more then welcome to come bench with us on monday at 5 pm if you like and i can help you in person. Or just come when you can and i can watch you bench. Or just try what i said. But if you only added or subtracted 1/2 inch you can work with it. You havent lifted in it yet right? Dont put it on at home and try to pull your arms back. If you havent used it your just phsyqing your self out for no reason. My first shirt i could nt force my self down in a pushup with my wife on my back but it worked fine in the gym. Did you order cut out in the back already or did you cut it?

grimmer, take some time and go down and lft with plftjay,it will be well worth it.what shirt were you going t use in march?

thanks guys, ya you read it right. I actualy ordered it 1/2 inch larger on arms chest and shoulders so i could grow into it and because my bench is weak. The neck is still closed at the top but i can always cut that. This is the shirt i was gonna try to get ready for march with. The arms are perfect. I think that the problem is that the only person i could find to help me get it on was my girlfriend and lets just say that didn't work to well. If i can get it on right i think it might work.
Jay i really want to get over there and lift with you before March. I don't know if i can do this monday but the next week i can definitly do ,feb11th i think. That next week i can do any day of the week. The other thng is i don't lift with any body so getting it on in my weak ass gym is gonna be hard.

Grimmer,

I would definately not cut the neck out of that shirt just yet. The problems you are perceiving right now will be more severe with the neck cut out.

One thing I have noticed with the velcro back is that the tighter you fasten the velcro, the less weight is necessary to get the bar down to your chest.

I was freaked out when I got my first denim, cause I tried it on away from the gym and I could not believe what a limited range of motion I had in pulling my elbows back, but it was just fine in the gym. My guess would be that it will take somewhere in the neighborhood of the mid 300's for the bar to touch with that shirt.

Good luck.
