scraping knees while deadlifting??

110%

everytime i deadlift i scrape my knees up, i always hear ppl saying you should be scraping ur shins maybe while doing deadlifts but i never hear knees, does this mean my form is messed up or is it ok if my knees are getting scraped up? they usually get scraped on the way up and down.

110% my friend, I think you might be taking things a tad to literally. Long as the bar is CLOSE to your shins and knees on the upward and downward motion on a dl, you're ok. From what you've said, I'm sure your form is fine.

On a really heavy day my shins will actually bleed, the bar doesn't need to be quite that close to you shins, but it works for me

As long as you're not tearing your knee caps off, your fine.

Deads are a good opportunity to condition your shins if you ever want to start Muay Thai:D

Its a form problem. You shouldnt have to pull it over your knees. Place the bar a couple inchs forward. but when you pull up...pull towards your hips.

needsize: its a body shape thing taller thinner build people(opposed to short and nuggety) will need the bar closer to their shins.

you shoulnt have to hit anything....but as soon as the weights start stacking up, these things start to happen.

It might also be a timing problem where you extend your knees at the wrong time causing them the hit the bar....when they should nearly be locked out

Thaibox: what ever happend to methyated spirits and bashing your shins with a metal ruler?

Me too

I blead everytime until my strength and form improved. I honestly considered wearing catchers shin gaurds!!

It gets better..

When you pull...the bar should NOT be against your shins. Place the bar a few inches out from them...I set the bar about 6" from my shin acctually...but I have HUGE feet too...lol.

A deadlift is sitting back, not standing up. I do hit my knees from time to time though...when I go super heavy...usually when setting a new PR.
