the thread about cardio messing with gains got me a thinking (particularly desmonds post)

after you guys do a cardio sesh, what does your post workout shake look like?

iv always done the same as i do for lifting, as i figured it had the same cortisol catabolic effect on the body.

is there a need for a post cardio insulin spike?

on days i do weight training following a cardio ses. i do 40 grams and on days where I only do only cardio between 30-40 grams of protien. To me it depends on how much protien powder you want to go through because money dont grow on trees for me so i like to take more after i use weights than i do just doing cardio. And as for insuline spike I like to do it regardless to help recover faster. Be aware that spiking you energy levels can cause body fat storage

It depends on the intensity/duration of your cardio. The harder, the longer, the more post exercise nutrition become important.

Generally speaking, cardio depletes your energy storage more so then weight training. So the demand for proper post exercise nutrition is greater after cardio then weight training.

In any event, from the information i've seen, it's best to keep the carb/protein ratio close to 2:1 post exercise. This is coming off the top of my head, but I recall the specifics being something like .8g/kg LBM carbs .4g/kg LBM protein. So for someone with 200lbs LBM, they would require approx. 72g carbs, 36g Protein post workout.

Many strength coaches feel that for Strength training, 1 serving of the above immediately after working out. Where endurance athletes should consume 1 serving post workout, and another serving 30 minutes later.

These levels should provide optimum recovery/repair/growth with minimal extra storage. Of course your overall diet needs to be factored into this, but I don't have to tell you that.

As far as preventing your body from burning muscle during cardio you can't go wrong with BCAA's. I like Apex.

I do the pills.
