Partial Deadlifts

I just did partial deadlifts yesterday as part of my back routine and they worked GREAT in my opinion. I could handle around 25 more pounds without wrist wraps!

I did them off of a flat bench and it seemed like without going from the floor they really hit my lats and my rhomboids along with my traps and low back a lot more.

I am really hoping that some of you will give them a try and reap the benefits.

Definetly a good back exercise.I don't feel it as much in the lower back, but they fry the upper portion, especially traps. When I did them on a regular basis, it was in the power rack from a position just below the knees.Great exercise!

Same as a regular deadlift, except you begin the movement from a position anywhere from below knee level to above knee level. From that position you just lift the bar to lock out.The higher you begin the lift, the more weight can be used.

Yeah thats the truth ballast-

The higher the weight is the more weight you can pile on... I usually go for around 325-335 for 8 on regular deads with partials I went to around 355-360 for 7-8. Also I didnt use straps at all..

Partial deads are an addictive exercise because you can move more weight however, you need to be aware that a limited range of motion in any exercise over a long period of time can cause muscle problems.
Use them for a period of time say to overcome a sticking point but do not neglect full range deads.

I trained partials for my last meet because it was an event. Back to full deads now.

Do partial deads every 2 weeks. They are great and am able to handle a lot more weight. I have heard the argument about doing full range of motion, but I'm not sure I buy it. It has been explained to me by an exercise physiologist that muscle recruitment has to do with the weight lifted, not the range of motion. The more recruitment, the more the muscle grows. I think partials are great on any exercise. They are safer and you can use more weight.

Partials with a transition to fulls....

I wanna try that...so lots of weight. Say 50 pds more than usual and start at the top in the power rack and than move more and more down till i hit the floor and will be doing that weight for regular deadlifts....

Good idea...i read about something like that once...
