The weekend was an absolute blast. The Hurricane Heat was more of a test of toughness than anything else - it was FUCKING COLD out. Being immersed chest deep in water at 6:30am when it was still only 34 degrees outside and then having to continue working your way through various challenges, feats and tasks for another couple hours was a challenge. To be honest, I was a little disappointed with that part of the day as we did the whole event as a group. Those of us that finished a task quickly had to sit and wait for the rest of the group to get through.
The race itself was great. I was a bit tired and tight from the HH, but accomplished all the physical challenges and made a decent time. I'm debating going up to Charlotte in two weeks to run the Spartan Sprint there without having done the HH to see how fast I can complete the course. I'm also going to start training for the longer events they run - the Super Spartan and the Spartan Beast - so I can complete the trifecta. I don't think I can quite get to the point of being ready for the Death Race this year, but I think next fall I will enter.
As for the cycle, I'm continuing to make progress every single time I enter the gym. After taking yesterday off to recover from the Spartan events, I got up this morning and went for a nice four mile run. Later when I hit the weights I went up five pounds on each of my three Chest/Shoulder lifts today (bench, incline and military) and still completed all for 5x5. The sheer increase in strength I've experienced over the course of the last six weeks has been absolutely amazing.
