no food before resistance training in AM?

I'm curious what the thoughts on this subject are.

I did body-for-life from April to July of this year and read Bill Philips' book. In it he recommends doing both HIIT and weights before having any food early in the morning. I can understand the reasons for doing HIIT this way but is it really prudent to do resistance training early AM before eating anything? Is it really more benefitial?

I have helped people with BFL before and we altered that. They got up and ate a protein and carb meal prior to training. The workouts were better, the results were better, and after a few months of a beginner regimen like that they were ready to move on to a more intense split with improved goals in mind.

If your ONLY goal is to lose "weight," do it as written.

*weight and fat aren't necessarily the same thing.

We do our strongman event training Saturday mornings; I used to roll out of bed and show up without eating, and did just fine, I didn't feel like not having breakfast hurt me.

Then on one hung over Saturday, I woke up a little early and cooked breakfast before I went out... I had a GREAT workout. I now eat breakfast EVERY Saturday morning, and workouts have been consistently much better than w/o food.

Eat if you can before your workouts.

I've moved away from BFL as far as the workout portion of it and the time of my workouts. It is just more convenient for me to do my training after work, before dinner and I seem to have the same amount of energy as early morning. I was just curious whether most ppl run out of fuel doing this(not eating beforehand).

I'm still looking to do both, lose bodyfat and gain muscle mass. I know this is hard to do and I find myself constantly worrying about my caloric intake and I still don't know what the best thing to do is in that respect but I suppose that is another thread unless people are interested in helping out.

i would do cardio early am on an empty stomach and then weights later in the day after getting some good fuel intake
