im really sore from yesterdays leg workout. Is it best to rest today? go for an easy walk...?
i took glutamine after trainig before bed and this morning...
any other tips?

I probably havent paid enough attention to the active recovery threads but would yoga count???? I have a tape that I have never even taken out of the wrapper that is for flexibility.

Whatever you do, don't get in the hot tub after a tough leg workout. Talk about draining! Take a hot bath with some epsom salts or sea salts. Invest in some Bengay or Icy Hot. DO NOT take Ibuprofin (Motrin) or Acetaminophen (tylenol), I've been reading where studies have shown that they slow muscle gains. This months M&F has an article about it.

i like to get in the hot tub as well, usually the day after, and i will stretch a little while i'm in the water. don't know if that is proper, but it feels good!

Like I said, overtraining isn't nearly as big a problem as under-recovering.

As for the hot tub: It's pretty routine for me to go back to the wet area after a leg workout, have my trainer get the hose out, and run ice cold water down each leg until I can't stand it anymore, and then get in the hot tub for 5-10. Feels GOOD.

Gurl you really need to see somebody about the masochistic tendencies of yours LOL! I am all over the hot tub thing too but cold water? :cold: :eek2:

I'm there everyother week. So are my clients. It's part of the game.

Oh, BTW. Tried something new the other day. Instead of the 25-15-10 rep scheme on leg presses with 20 sec breaks, try 5 sets of 10 reps with 10 sec breaks. The weight chosen should allow the first two sets to go fairly quick (explosive), the third with effort and the last two should be to near failure. More pain than humans should be allowed to enjoy.

Give this a try SPAT with 7 plates on each side of the leg press, after you squat heavy. In fact, just to make things interesting. Do some speed sets with squats to parallel (9 sets of 3 with 30 sec between sets or 10 sets of 2 with 20 sets between sets). Then go to leg presses (5 x 10).

It will put hair on your chest ;) Give it 48 hours and let me know if you can stand up from the toilet with grabbing on to something.

hmmmmm legs....mine hurt for at LEAST 3-4 days....I can barely walk down stairs and sitting down is nearly impossible...take in glutamine...some asprin and do light walking...doing nothing makes it worse...stretching and a good massage works great too....Its something you have to get used to and just suck it up...my legs are sore weekly...as well as the bigger parts like chest and back...usually the 2nd day after training is the worst...when it comes to training you cant be a pussy.....
