Some of you already know I'm training a litter of Spaniel puppies in the gym. Okay, they aren't really Spaniel puppies. They are a bunch of 16 yer old girls who are on the dance troupe at my daughter's high school. (They just run around and act like puppies.)

One of the girl's concerns me.

She is 17, a pretty and intelligent girl. From the outward eye she would appear to be in good health... and she is the very top dancer in her school. (Which is saying a lot since it is an arts high school.) I've seen her performances in the past at the dance shows and she is a brilliant choreographer.

The first problem that I noticed with her was that her upper body strength was significantly lower than the other girls. Then I saw that as she did curls her left elbow would always shoot out to the side. (I stood behind her and held her elbows in with the tips of my fingers and there was enormous preassure from her each rep to push the elbow back out to the side.) I put my hands on her shoulders when she was doing pull downs... and it was CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH. Even she could hear the grinding and popping as her shoulder blades rubbed together.

I have my own theory as to what is going on here... but I wanted to throw out this description to see if anybody else had any ideas as to what this sounds like.

dislocated shoulder in past??

Rotators sound weak

When she would do dumbell incline presses she would start out with three strong reps... then all of a sudden the weight would come fishtailing down. If I wasn't there to catch it it would smack her in the face.

rotator cuff is my guess. i had a female friend who had those same symptoms, and that was the docs diagnoses.

she eventually had surgery for bone spurs, and now she is all screwed up. Never really recovered.
