Do women need protein as well?

I am a young woman, and working out is getting mevery attached. I am already taking creatine for recovery and someadditional energy, and BCAA's to prevent catabolism. Do I also needthe protein shakes like men do? I don't want to gain additional mass,so I guess that not, but maybe there is something more to proteinthan just that?

If you are getting enough protein in through your diet there is no need for a protein shake. Shakes are really only there to fill in the gaps you may have in your diet. Whole foods will always be superior.

I like to have 1-2 shakes per day but that is out of convenience.

As long as you are getting at least 1g of protein per pound of bodyweight that is enough for growth......assuming you are also training and in a caloric surplus.

men don't need protein shakes. let us not buy into the marketing bs.

no as a female you don't NEED protein shakes, but some females will add it in as a supplement

i recommend getting a whey isolate. check out n2bm they have excellent proteins

There is no need for protein shakes as such, especially for a lady. Women do not need to gain all that much mass, and you need protein for that. If we are talking about maintenance, you should have an easy time getting your protein intake from natural food. So as long as your daily macros from food match your needs, there is no need to use protein shakes.

A protein supplement is nothing more then a convenient and cost effective way to meet your daily protein requirements. It is not needed per say but it's a really easy way to help meet your protein requirements.

I know myself that I don't have a big appetite and I would have a really hard time reaching 1.5g of protein per pound of body weight without protein supplements.

All protein powders are not created equal. You really need to be a smart consumer in today's market and do your research. Look at the ingredient list and supplements fact panel on every supplement before buying it.

For a whey protein - you want to see nothing but that in the ingredients list. Whey protein, natural flavours, a natural calorie free sweetener like stevia and then maybe some salt, soy lechitin and cocoa powder. There are a lot of good products on the market. I personally use isolation from n2bm.com. A good whey isolate should be pretty much fat and carb free. Isolation has 26g protein, 1g carb, 0g fat per 30g scoop.
