Bill Starr's Heavy/Medium/Light Routine...

Can anyone shed some light on this program? From what I understand Bench Press, Squats, and Power Cleans are performed each workout (M,W,F). One of the three exercises is performed Heavy on each day. So each day you perform one exercise Heavy, one light and one medium.

This seems like a bit much to me but it has endured for a long time. What's the deal? Any of you guys like this approach?

Just another variation on periodization, although slightly more 'compressed' than other routines I've seen.

Clarence Bass is a big proponent of this type of training as well, but rather more along the lines of one month for each segment, followed by 'micro-periodization' periods of, say, one week.

Works for me, in any case.

Dont be scared about the volume....I have heard many a lazy american whinge about the volume. You will get used to it....just remember to eat sleep. This is weight training....not golf!
