Which meet to do...

I'm trying to decide which meet I want to lift in as my first meet. I want to compete around late February, and I have found these meets:

Feb. 15- WNPF TN State- Cleveland, TN, about 3.5 hours away
Feb. 16- WNPF GA State- Atlanta, 4 hours away
Feb. 22- APF St. Louis- about 5 hours away

As you can see, I'm going to have to drive a ways no matter what. Any ideas/opinions about which I should do?

i had the same dilemna with my first meet. i chose the one that looked like it wasn't a tightass fed, and one that looked like the meet would be fun. are they serving free food at any of em? lol

The St. Louis meet should be fun. I know there will be a bunch of people from the board at this meet. After we could all go out for food and beer. I have heard good things about the people running this meet as well. It's up to you though.

I was kind of leaning towards the St. Louis meet, since I knew a lot of people from here were going to be lifting there and it looked like a good meet. Plus, theres a strongman competition, too, isnt there? Id love to watch that.

I'ld go with the St.Louis meet, a good federation and you'll meet people from here.

APF

if you want any competition, go to the APF meet. If you are a trophy hunter, go to one of the others.

Man, it s up to powerlifters to attend a mature organization and make it better.

These splinter feds are bad for the sport.

Yall basically confirmed what I was thinking, so it looks like I'll be in St. Louis. Now, time for me to go do some planning.

STL!!!! I love it. Those guys powerlift EVERY Saturday morning at 8 am. If you are interested, we can drive up on a Friday night and practice on Saturday morning. It costs $5 to train with them but you will get to use the EXACT equipment as will be used in your meet.

They are ALL nice people up there too...good friends of mine.

Bfold,

you should compete at the strongman there.

Willie Wessells is running the meet (both the stringman and the powerlifting.) He is head of the NASS, and an incredibly nice guy as well as one of the greatest powerlifters ever.

It will be cool to meet you Zack! (What weight class, open or juniors?, and goal lifts are you planning for?)
