Trying this next week, unless...

Hi all,

I'm thinking about changing my routine. I've been working out 4 days a week: 2 on, 1 off, 2 onn, 2 off, and repeat

I was thinking about working out five days a week, leaving the weekends for resting. Here's my plan:

Days breakdown/Split

Mon: Chest/calves

Tues: Shoulders/Lats

Wed: Bis/tris

Thurs: Chest/legs

Fri: Back

Sat/Sun Rest days

I hear that working chest twice a week will really maximize my gains. Can anyone see anything wrong with this? Remember that this is not an established workout; don't know if it will work for me. I'm willing to try something different at this point. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated...

I've always been a big believer in a rest day between workouts, regardless of the split. I also think chest and legs on the same day is a bad idea. That's two large muscle groups on the same day, that's a no-no. I'd move to a three-day split, or simply keep your schedule and mix up the excercises a bit.

i totally agree with gymtime, i dont think i would be able to do chest or legs if i did the otehr first, i would be wiped out. i dont think you will be able to do your potential strength for those bodyparts if you follow that split, switch up which days you do bodyparts. also just my opinion, i dont think you need to do chest twice a week.

I wish I can split this up as to having a day off every two workout days. Problem is, that would extend it into the weekend. My gym only stays open on weekends till 6pm, which sucks since I work late all the time.

Ok, how about this scheme. I took everyone's advice and re-designed it to look something like this:

Mon Chest/Calves
Tues Bis/tris
Wed Shoulders/traps
Thurs Legs
Fri Back and some chest

Sat/Sun are off days (not by choice, but obligation)...

Any better, or even further from where I should be?

thanks for all your comments...

That would be better as doing chest mon & thurs may not give it enough time to rest. I know it is still 3 days in between fri and mon but you have nothing else to train in between like shoulders or triceps where chest may come into play. If you are going to do it I would suggest using Monday as a heavyish day then Friday as a lighter day. You will hit the fibres slightly differently and the light day will give a good pump and help recovery.
