So I started treating her like a ‘Senile’ old woman. If my mother criticized how I planted a tree (and I’m sure she has) I would have listen to the whole blathering insidious speech nodding and agreeing at just the right moments then I would give her a big hug and say, “Thank mom, I love you”

Works every time and she has yet to see that iPod earpiece I have blasting AC/DC in my other ear.

i am aware we only get one set of parents and should value and cherish every moment we get to live another day together. that being said i'm sure it will be at least 3 months before my mom and i talk to each other again lol

That's pretty sad. She may be controlling and simply want the best for you (note: she's a mother, it happens), but is that so wrong? You should feel blessed that you have a mother who gives a crap about you. She gave you life, raised you and I'm sure endured a ton of heartache along the way. Regardless what your relationship with her is, you should always treat her with love and respect. She probably just misses her son and being a mother to her once "baby". Maybe you should call her up and do something nice for/with her.

My mother can be the same way. Everything has to be her way. She has ruined many Christmas's and family vacations.
She tends to push me as far as she can. She will just keep going and going and going and going until I tell her to go fuck herself. Then she turns to my father and says "do you see how he talks to me". When that happens. I turn to my father and say "You were here for all of this. If you have a problem with what I said you can go fuck yourself too". Then I leave.
The irony of this is that I constantly have them throwing in my face "my temper". I get along with everyone. I can go out by myself and I make friends. Everybodys parents love me. My dad and I get along great. My mother just loves to push me as far as she can. If she held an adult conversation with me there would never be a problem. She is not capable of doing that though. So she pushes me until I can't take it. Then its "my temper" all over again.
