Salt Intake?

Sculelos

New member
Well I was wondering if anyone knows how much salt I need since I am outside 8hours a day (90-105f heat) and almost always sweating. I do intense physical activity and drink about 20 20oz bottles or about 3 gallons of water a day, so any advice is welcome, right now I'm just eating high sodium foods pretty much every meal. (eat 5-6 times a day)

Well I'm a newbie, so take my opinion with a grain of salt (pun intended =p )

However, having sodium at every meal certainly can't be healthy in the long run. Do you use salt at every meal to enhance the flavor of what you eat? Maybe it's time to find foods you like that you don't have to cover in salt.

I use salt when I have a tin of Tuna and on my chicken breasts. One of the side effects of a medication I take reduces my blood-sodium. I get my blood tested twice a month and so far it's been balanced, so I would think that salt at 1 meal a day is probably enough.

I would buy a stethiscope and check your blood pressure though, if it's high then cut back.

Ah okay, I don't use salt to enhance the flavor and not at every meal, just when I'm working, actually my diet is very low in salt naturally so I started drinking tomato juice also eating some cheese and bean burritos and some chicken wraps as well, I feel much better since doing that although I will take my blood pressure tomorrow before I work.

As for what I do I am a cart pusher at Walmart, I don't use the electronic machine because it is junk, so I'm all physical labor. I can get very sweaty and it seems like eating some saltier foods has helped me out some, although I'm still trying to get used to the heat.

And thanks for the reply's I will definitely check my blood pressure tomorrow.

The truth is, if u're drinking 3 gallons of water a day... you probably don't need to worry about your sodium intake...try to only use a pinch of it when u need to use it.

Watch out for the processed foods though. My logic tells me it is not the salt that is giving u the benefits u're finding, but rather probably the carbs.

Try drinking some gatorade.

Yeah, I am drinking some Gatorade now, seems to be helping as well. And will do, although tomato juice did seemingly help me alot yesterday so maby it was the potassium? I dunno whatever it offered it helped me a lot.

And yea my carb intake is pretty high but it's the most effective way to keep my energy up.

I think what I'm facing after 6-7 hours into my shift might just be pure fatigue as I think my body has to work a lot harder in 95+ heat compared to the 50-80 heat I've been working in most of april/may/june.

I tested my blood pressure today and first time I took it it was 146/83, but I was stressing so I'm like damn and I calmed myself down then took it again and was at 126/70, so I think my blood pressure is fine. I think my sodium levels are fine again now that tonight is the first night in a long time that I'm not damn thirsty.
